If you had told us fifteen years ago, when LSQ was a one-woman operation running on a steady diet of "wouldn't it be cool if", that we would attract authors and stories as good as these, we would have been very pleased indeed! These stories are deep. They are full of hard earned human emotions, in spite of their fantastical settings. Ghosts and goblins and living houses and fairy tales and the underworld are all great, but if they don't get under your skin, and maybe even draw some blood from time to time, then what's the point, at this late hour? So please accept our latest invitation to the greatest show in speculative literature, as we all change and evolve and become our next selves, together. Horses loom large in our collective histories. Symbols of power, of strength, companions on a long journey, heroes, magical creatures, etc. they're woven through the fabric of our tales. All this love of horses is pouring out here and now, the obvious inspiration for this year's theme. There's such a wild and varied selection of stories in this issue, tales full of magic and mayhem, court intrigues and cybernetic mounts. And of course, a few unicorns for good measure. "A personal story at the heart of a vast, fragile universe." - Tara Lindsey, author of "The Esbat Sequence" Elys Ki Dul long ago accepted that he is neither the best nor brightest of the Hantirri Order. He takes comfort in being useful, focusing on completing his missions as a courier and training the apprentice he chose himself, despite her unconventional nature. When an unexpected letter comes into his possession, he finds himself charged with a task meant for those more powerful than himself. With his world turned upside down, Elys relies on his apprentice's clear-headed outlook, a new companion's heart-centered strength, and the wisdom of a mysterious old woman who is more than she seems. Set amidst a galaxy recovering from centuries of conflict, A Stirring in the Bones tells the story of a humble man forced to question his place in the universe when Fate comes calling. Or maybe he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even Elys isn't quite sure.
Candle, Thread, and Flute is a collection of poetry from award-winning author Kathryn Hinds. The topics in this volume span the mythical and the mundane, paying homage to the gods of old and the creatures of the present. Come and sit awhile with Persephone as she makes her way to the underworld. Join a mother, daydreaming on Thanksgiving as she cares for her child. Take a journey to the edge of the sea and smell the salt spray as the tide rolls in. These travels and more are awaiting on the pages within. Make yourself at home and allow the words to wash over you.
As we begin the TENTH YEAR of Luna Station Quarterly (Holy @#$&!) we are proud to present an incredibly varied slate of female fronted fiction for you to enjoy.
