Messages of Despair - Messages of Hope offers a framework which families and victims alike can draw upon for recovery from eating disorders.
Growing up in a small farming community, Annie thought she had the perfect life and the best parents in the world. As she grew older; however, she began to experience outbursts of rage and beatings from her father and unexplainable behavior from her mother that left her hurt, confused and intensely insecure. Annie developed a crippling fear that would affect her for most of her life. No one knew about PTSD at the time and no one talked openly about bad things that happened in their families. When she left home at 18 to get married, she thought she would find the love and acceptance she had longed for and life would finally be everything she had desired. Her new husband was going to be a minister, and she was excited about this new chapter in her life. Little did she realize the years to come would be full of unfaithfulness, abuse and pain that would leave her and her children devastated and abandoned. Abuse, trauma, humiliation and betrayal can damage us physically, emotionally and mentally and cause us to live with fear, rejection and a loss of our identity. But there is an answer, and Annie found it.
Here is a book full of kid adventures at a time and in a place where adults didn't have to constantly be watching and you didn't have to be buckled in and wearing protective head gear. Some of the memories are unique, many of them are similar to things we've all done. Sit back, read leisurely and enjoy. You'll smile, laugh and nod in recollection as Freeman shares the kinds of memories we all love to hold onto. This book is about growing up in and around Oxford, Mississippi in the 1950s and 1960s, but it could have been any small town.
