Africa currently faces a number of challenges. One of these major challenges is undoubtedly the promotion and protection of human rights. The realisation of human rights requires the combined efforts of all participants in society: individuals, States and other public and private entities, as well as active international cooperation. In this age of globalisation and advanced technology, all countries aspire to a better life for their citizens, and this is only possible if human rights and the rights of peoples are well protected.

The results of the analysis of changes in the number of natural and man-made emergencies are presented. In the context of climate change impacts, risks arise from the dynamic interaction between climate-related hazards and man-made systems. The proposed approach to probability assessment considers the fact that climate change increases the probability of adverse events that have already occurred in the area. Sources of uncertainty derived from accounting for greenhouse gas emissions or removals are identified. At the same time, objectively determined causes of uncertainty are highlighted. Ways of training personnel capable of assessing and managing climate risk factors within socio-ecological systems are proposed.

Brazilian cities are experiencing a phenomenon in which rising rates of urban violence have caused fear when walking the streets. The solution to the problem of violence involves different spheres of government and professionals, but it is the role of the urban planner to propose the design of a city that can itself foster the factors that generate security for its streets. Urban planning focused on security is not capable of extinguishing violence in cities, but it is capable of minimizing its damage. The use of geoprocessing techniques as urban planning tools has proved effective in diagnosing problems and proposing solutions. The results of this research show that by identifying the variables that generate a sense of insecurity in the streets, there are viable ways for planners to intervene.

For several decades, the main concern of nutritionists has been to meet the growing nutritional requirements of poultry and pigs resulting from the great advances in genetics. Parallel to the focus on nutritional requirements for maximum performance, more recently there has been an interest in nutritionally altering the quantitative and qualitative composition of carcasses. With the high level of genetic selection in broilers, the new commercial strains have muscles with twice as many muscle fibres and a larger diameter than the traditional strains. However, all this genetic progress in broiler performance has generated an adverse side effect, which is the emergence of metabolic diseases especially related to the breast muscles, such as deep breast myopathy or PSE meat. On the other hand, one of the most fascinating aspects of pork is that it can be enriched nutritionally. That's why this book also discusses how to fulfil the nutritional needs of humans through the nutritional management of pigs.
Youth is a social category with a complex definition. It bears the marks of the political, social, economic, relational and cultural processes of its time. It points to a complex fabric of social representations that are constructed and modified through spatial, temporal and historical conditions, demarcating distinct and peculiar ways of relating, dressing, speaking in groups, among others. Ten authors make up the book we are presenting here. Each of the chapters raises questions and theoretical concerns about different youth realities, in the light of films that take youth as their theme. The authors are very clear that they do not intend to exhaust the possibilities of reading the chosen films. On the contrary! They believe and wish to be making available material that serves as a trigger for new readings and different perspectives on youth. If this is the case, we, as youth scholars, will be contributing to the advancement of this theoretical field. We wish you all a great read! With love! The organizers.
To awaken their interest in researching with skills and abilities on the Internet, making web research a powerful tool to help them with their academic work. By making search engines and websites available to them so that they could search the Internet and have in their hands a consultation tool that would guide them in finding content for their academic work more easily and gathered in one place. They didn't have to worry about whether or not the site was reliable and, above all, it taught the students how to search with criteria, knowing the tips and tricks to navigate safely. In order to start a search on the Internet, students will look for exactly one of the most used search engines, Google, and it is on the first page of this search engine that students open in search of the content for their research, hence the concern to indicate other search engines and sites that they can use to carry out their research without running the risk of reading, studying or even consulting materials in the various areas of knowledge without having passed the sieve of specialists and researchers.
This paper is a survey of UFAL Pedagogy students' conception of the school library as a tool for supporting teaching and learning, as well as encouraging and promoting reading. It also presents suggestions for including the school library in the Pedagogical Political Project. It shows the possible advantages of a partnership between librarians and educators in the educational process. For data collection, a questionnaire was applied to 40 (forty) students enrolled in the three shifts of the Pedagogy course at the Federal University of Alagoas, Education Center (CEDU). After statistical analysis of the data, it was found that the respondents are aware of the importance of the School Library in the teaching-learning process of the Brazilian educational system. However, they indicated that they are not able to develop actions for the implementation and/or improvement of school library spaces in educational units. In this sense, the survey instrument used identified that the majority of those interviewed had not yet taken part in educational activities related to the use of the School Library as a teaching tool.
Syphilis is a systemic disease exclusive to humans, caused by Treponema pallidum, a sexually and vertically transmitted spirochete bacterium that can occur at any stage of pregnancy. It has been known since the 15th century and its studies have covered all medical specialties. The main route of transmission of syphilis is sexual contact, followed by vertical contact with the fetus during the pregnancy of a mother with the disease who has not undergone treatment or has done so inadequately. The presentation of signs and symptoms is variable and complex. When left untreated, it progresses to more serious forms which can affect the nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system and gastrointestinal tract. In this paper, we analyze the incidence of congenital syphilis in three municipalities in western São Paulo over the last six years and, through a literature review, we reinforce the role of nursing in guidance, intervention and prevention of syphilis.

Oil palm (Elaies guiniensis) is an important commodity that contributes to the livelihoods of many communities, to the GDP of governments and to the achievement of various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), biodiversity and climate change. However, its cultivation and continued expansion, due to high and growing demand, has led to many negative effects and subsequent calls to make production sustainable. Sustainable oil palm production fits into the global vision of sustainability, which over the years, economic crises and the climate change debate have focused the attention of academics, industrialists and policymakers on promoting a green economy. In this context, the dissertation focused on the economic/financial evaluation and life cycle assessment of an investment project for oil palm production, covering all the stages from seedling formation to harvesting. The quantification of the carbon footprint (greenhouse gas emissions) as well as other environmental impacts with effects on human health, biodiversity and resources, in degraded areas in the Brazilian Amazon.
This book aims to analyze the economic viability of an agroforestry system on a family property, located in the Carlos Lamarca Settlement in the city of Congonhinhas, Paraná State, Brazil. The methodology consists of an investment analysis of organic agricultural production. The collection of empirical data on the property includes filling in financial data, a socio-economic survey and an interview with the farmer. Based on estimates of future crop production, the prices practiced by the farmer in institutional markets, future sales contracts, prices at the Paraná Central Supply Station in Londrina-PR and estimates of the costs of maintaining the agroforestry system, the financial results obtained were positive for financial viability.
As the author shows, throughout the First World War (1914-1918), millions of postcards were produced by the governments of the countries involved in the conflict. They were illustrated with images that constructed a narrative whose aim was to encourage the continuation of the war effort, both at the front and in the rear, as evidenced here through a reflection that focuses on French postcards from the period. By contrasting the visual messages printed on the postcards with those handwritten by their senders, the work seeks to highlight different forms of expression and perceptions of the conflict, as employed by civilians and military personnel at different points in its development.
This brief paper seeks to discuss how prostitution is treated by the law, especially labor law. To this end, it discusses the stigmatizing factor of prostitution and how these workers are seen by a large part of society as lesser humans, whose lives are not mourned when they are lost. This reality can still be seen in the Brazilian judiciary, where decisions of a moralistic nature and condemnations of prostitutes prevail, which was demonstrated in this work with extensive jurisprudential research based on the analysis of 906 judgments from all the Brazilian TRTs. The results showed that sex workers are still treated by Brazilian law as lesser beings, disgusting, criminals and even as a criterion for unhealthiness. In this way, the category of subject of law proves to be segregating, viewing prostitutes as strangers and, through mechanisms of dehumanization (corroborated by the judiciary), these people are denied any and all rights.
This work sought to address aspects of the evolution of accounting, accounting professionals, accounting courses and scientific production dealing with accounting education in Brazil, from 1980 to 2001. Within a historical framework, important events that took place over time were outlined, from a critical and reflective perspective. In the study of Accounting, the focus was on its origins and evolution; on its manifestation as a science; on the theoretical currents that have been built up over time; on the important milestones that have occurred in its practical applicability around the world and for its development in Brazil. This journey of facts, which have come to fruition, has created, within the perspective of rebirth with each impulse of these movements verified in the development of the importance of this science for the business world, a condition of extreme relevance for the sedimentation of the characteristics of the Accounting professional.
Swallowing is a complex process that can be compromised by neurological, obstructive, degenerative or cognitive factors. Dysphagia is defined as the sensation of impediment to the passage of liquid or solid material when it is swallowed. It is important to ensure that people with swallowing disorders are able to hydrate and feed themselves safely. As a result, a working group was set up in my department, of which I am a member, in order to respond to these needs. This work reinforces the importance of nursing participation in the rehabilitation of patients with dysphagia. Changes in swallowing are associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality, due to the associated risks: dehydration, malnutrition, aspiration pneumonia and death.
Interviews with local authorities highlight the strong strategic dimension of decentralized cooperation programs, with high expectations in terms of economic spin-offs.Cooperative action strives to promote democracy and stakeholder participation, and to bring together environmental protection, the creation of economic activities and sustainable income, the strengthening of rights, and respect for cultural diversity and freedoms. It is important to capitalize on successes and failures in this field, to benchmark, and thus to cross several dynamics, whose convergence and synergy of actions could be ensured by decentralized cooperation.Local authorities set up initiatives to give their own impetus to political, economic and social development. Decentralized cooperation contributes to the development and strengthening of local public services.
This book offers an analysis of the relationship with school as a determinant of academic performance among secondary school pupils. Starting from the observation that the most current studies aimed at explaining the variability of performance among pupils in Burkina Faso very often overlook the relational and affective dimensions between the pupil and the school, this book is interested in analyzing the existing links between relationship to school and school performance.Through the identification of certain sub-dimensions of the relationship to school, notably the meaning given to school work and the psychological well-being of the pupil at school, this book highlights the predominant role it plays in determining pupil performance. The book shows that the meaning that students give to school work, through their representations of the purpose of schooling and the value placed on school, is significantly correlated with academic performance. Similarly, students' psychological well-being at school is linked to their academic performance.
This work is the result of a master's degree project carried out at UNIFAE (University Centre of the Associated Faculties of Education) in São João da Bora Vista - SP. It was a marvellous journey that I was able to make in unparalleled company (my dear supervisor Prof. Dr. Erica Baciuk). The justification for this study, since its conception, has been to present businesspeople and enthusiasts in the area with ways of controlling objective occupational health parameters and guiding employees through any problems that may arise, in order to present an effective coping strategy and efficient preventive campaigns.
This book deals with climate change in Brazil, especially in the north-east, where droughts are huge and affect animals, families and the entire population. Many different subjects are highlighted, all focussing on the environment, climate change and the consequences that affect nature and everything that lives in it. It is very important for everyone to get to know this part of the world and become aware of how much it is affected by climate change.
Within the context of the growth of contemporary cities, architecture and urbanism are not always imposed as democratic instruments, but sometimes as attributes of a speculative process. The hegemony of private interests has determined exclusionary boundaries and reflected important consequences of fragility and rarefaction in the use and appropriation of public spaces. Thus, the city is discussed here as a symbiosis of its spatial characteristics and the social power to transform spaces. The urban manifestations self-managed by the population represent dynamic instruments of resistance for the right to the city and instigate hypotheses about the future of public spaces, the dimensions and forms of urban design and developments in their appropriation. There is a demand for a review of the city-building process, involving and creating spaces for expanded participation where citizen responsibility and awareness become increasingly present and involved in urban life.
This paper aims to present a comparative study of the application of torque and angle with simple torque in the crankshaft bearing of an automotive engine. Angle-controlled tightening is an indirect method of measuring elongation that minimises friction between bolted parts in order to standardise and increase tightening precision at high torques. Faced with the problem of the advantages of using angle torque over simple torque in the manufacture of automotive engines, this study's general objective is to carry out a comparison of these applications specifically in the crankshaft bearing of the automotive engine. The method used in this work is a descriptive case study, in which a bibliographical review was carried out in order to learn more about the subject. After this, in order to verify the elastic and plastic limits in a practical way, breakage tests were carried out on SAE 10B30 alloy bolts used in automotive engine bearings. The study concluded that the variations in friction in the simple torque process can lead to serious problems in the assembly of bearings.
A cycle permeated with exchange, dedication and overcoming involved the construction of this work. The journey in search of the meaning of musical language in the educational sphere is continuous and encompasses my studies within the academic field. I hope that the reader will be affected by the perceptive and sensitive world of music, making it possible to expand awareness of its effects on the physical, psychological and social life of the human being. The world needs more love, more art and more music!
The importance of accounting and the role of the accountant today is based much more on their contribution to the general management of the company's operations than on the purely fiscal aspects resulting from the working relationship between Micro Companies and the outsourced accountant, who as a rule is based in an accounting office, providing the services of calculating the fiscal and tax obligations that companies have to fulfil. Our research on the subject cites difficulties such as a lack of financial planning and a lack of knowledge of the business as a whole, among other factors that prevent companies from remaining in the market because they don't have the knowledge or practice to handle the financial accounting instruments that are already established in the literature and available on the market. The subject becomes relevant because studying the reasons for the lack of knowledge of financial accounting instruments makes it easier to understand the problems encountered when implementing them, as their application can be relatively inexpensive for the benefit they provide to small businesses.
In fact, the aim was to launch some reflections that could be used to apply the new development model in practice to the empirical reality of São Tomé and PrÃncipe. Although there have been continuous changes in events during the course of this reflection, such as the emergence of new players in the African context, the holding of local, legislative and presidential elections in São Tomé and PrÃncipe, the change in NEPAD's philosophy from a program to an agency, the updating of the HDI by the UNDP, with the new guise given in 2016 to the MDGs/ODS and others, we also admit the possibility of possible subsequent updates (...). In this respect, our suggestion for future work is to implement the geo-social development model in different contexts, based on the theoretical model used.
The contemporary world is characterized by a state of constant mutation, large-scale information, instability in the global geopolitical framework, the limits of technological development and new dilemmas. This scenario has led to the emergence of new economic models, new production systems and new ideas of well-being as strategies for overcoming challenges. In this sense, Sociotechnical Innovation implies a process of systemic change, both in the productive structure and in the relationships between the actors within the system, with technical and behavioral implications that affect production, distribution and consumption. The innovation process is inverted to a bottom-up logic, where all stakeholders participate in the innovation design process, which makes it necessary to use participatory design processes. In this way, we propose a Co-Design Model for the development of Sociotechnical Innovations, considering it fundamental that technological development and the relationships between the actors involved in the innovation are the way to improve the innovation's performance, increase the chances of adoption and generate the desired impact.
