In today’s highly polarized climate of political interaction and social discourse that is growing in intensity, so much negativity is being communicated from all sides that the idea of civility has crept more and more into the collective consciousness. “Can’t we just all get along?” is a common lament that pervades interpersonal and corporate environments alike. A large part of getting along is treating each other with respect and courtesy. But how do you do that when confronted with uncivil behavior by others? This unique book explores the practical expression of civility through a series of personal stories that serve as outstanding real-life models for civil behavior in the face of conflict. These stories will encourage readers to take a closer look at their own lives while prompting acknowledgment of personal and inter-relationship issues and offer useful ideas about how to live more respectful and trusting lives. Individuals, as well as employers, government and religious leaders, teachers, conflict management and human rights consultants, police and military leaders, and countless others will benefit from the book’s insights and examples. The stories presented within these pages provide topics of discussion that will lead to deeper sharing and support within organizations and between everyday people and bring to the reader authentic and hope-filled responses to a troubled society.
The Absolute truth are quotes and statements of my personal experiences in life, and observations of encounters with people towards one another. I will hear a statement and from this formulate a true-life quote. In life, the net result at the end of the day is there’s only one truth. There’s no such thing as a version of the truth because it’s incomplete. Our personal truths may present with a little bias, but the Absolute truth can’t be denied, it’s exactly like 1 + 1 will always equal 2, no matter how it’s presented. I encourage all readers to read all the quotes at least twice to become familiar and then digest to assess how many of these quotes you believe to be the absolute truth. I believe that everyone has DNA in them that always tells and leads to the absolute truth, but the human flesh presents a distractor where we fail to connect and remain in one with our spirit that always gives the absolute truth. We fail because of our personal wants, needs and desires. Life is a full circle of giving and receiving, and anything else is an unbalanced which blind us from the absolute truth. There’s a statement that “The truth will make us free”, it’s a spiritual fight with our flesh to be right, it’s good to agree or disagree. In conclusion, the words are strong, sensitive, and hopefully self-acceptance. These are words that will penetrate to the subcutaneous tissues that will challenge you to change. The only question is do you accept the absolute truth to make the necessary changes that will propel you to be a better human being.

We live in a world full of two kinds of people. The ones that feel like they are dying inside, or the ones that walk around with true life flowing from them. In this book we look through some of the characteristics of both the living and the spiritually dead, and what should be the mission of those who are alive and well in a world that seems to be losing life as it goes. Hopefully this will challenge you, encourage you, and draw you closer to Jesus and His purpose for your life.
Cheryl Collins Gatons grew up believing a person could plan his or her life and that everything would work out according to that plan. However, on November 3, 2006, she learned otherwise when her husband died suddenly. Bagpipes and prison escapes. Raincoats and happy marriages. Funerals and favorite uncles. The power of invisibility and Christmas Eve. It's a decidedly different way of thinking about meaning and purpose in life. Garland West tells simple stories about everyday life and quietly reflects on the universal questions that confront us all. Do good deeds really matter? How do I express real love? How can I understand the pain of others and endure my own? How do I deal with the loss of the people I love? What right do I have to judge others? How do I bridge the gap between total despair and absolute love? Where can I find faith amid so much cause for doubt? It's the stuff of countless Sunday sermons across the rural south and Bible classes from deep within the Appalachian Mountains - all collected as a very personal hymnal. Appalachian Hymnal presents songs of faith and doubt, celebrating the mileposts in one person's spiritual journey and continuing quest for answers to the questions that really matter.
