    af Gita Jairaj

Foreword by Raymond Aaron New York Bestselling AuthorBe The Light is going to have you question how life can drastically change without warning. Here they were, two ordinary people who took a vow to love each other forever, and ventured into life together happily and innocently. This was soon interrupted by malevolent third parties who began a series of vicious attacks physically and supernaturally. Yet the worst blow will take the couple through a barrage of events that would change their future forever. When things in life are going wrong such as finances failing, relationships falling apart and health suffering, all of which need evaluation to determine why these misfortunes are happening.  However dismal circumstances seem, whatever life event has sent you sinking into the depths, you can pull yourself out and survive it.With the help of God, and the love of family, friends and the amazing people she met along this journey, Gita emerged stronger, wiser, expectant and most of all hopeful of a great present and the brightest future. It’s not every day that you allow people into your life, but when you do, ‘Be The Light,’ book will be a reminder of how important it is to tread into new relationships very carefully. This is a journey of self-discovery, learning to know God for oneself, perseverance, and the will to keep going against all the odds. Gita shares this true-life story with unbridled transparency, grace and forgiveness.

Humorous Wit is a new compilation of quotations in their most humoristic form. There are over 15,000 of these taken from various parts of the world, with over 1,200 of them translated into English for the first time. This book features 5,000 authors from every corner of the globe, covering a period starting before classical antiquity, when man first started to record his thoughts, to modern times, enriching the cultural heritage. This does not in any way mean that the caveman was less humorous, but the richness of the environment we live in today and the variety of subject matter contribute considerably to a refined sense of humour. Moreover, considering that chimps and other primates also possess the ability to laugh, humour may have been around longer than the human race : )

Try and Conversion is the inspiring story of Glyn Wood, born in Sheffield in 1960 into a working class family, and who lived on a council estate until the age of five. With limited prospects having left school without any formal qualifications, he was encouraged to join the Fleet Air Arm in the Royal Navy and, as a naive young boy he left Sheffield, aged sixteen, to see what the world had to offer. His story will tell you how a keen Sheffield United football fan finished up playing rugby union for most of his early teenage years and for part of his adult life, going on to play for Northampton Saints and Bedford Blues. Other accolades include playing at Twickenham on eight occasions, representing the Combined Services against Canada and Australia and performing in the Field Gun Crew at the Royal Tournament. He talks about the highs and lows of starting up and running his own business, being overlooked for the Great Britain Bobsleigh team as a brakeman in the Sarajevo Winter Olympic games, and how recurring injuries cut short his rugby career. However, Glyn openly admits that one of his biggest challenges was to swallow his pride and put aside his ego; his greatest accomplishments have been discovering real peace and a spiritual awakening after his conversion to the Christian faith at the age of thirty-seven.Glyn is now retired and serves at his local Anglican church in Kettering, Northamptonshire. He undertakes speaking engagements, talking about how his conversion affected his life, and he hopes that this book will encourage people from all backgrounds to seriously explore the Christian faith. How wonderful to know that when we draw close to God, nothing else matters, only to discover that everything matters to our God.

The Naked Tuck Shop is a unique record of a period long before 'gaiety' was legal in any form in the United Kingdom. This memoir of a 1950s grammar-school boy's navigation through his emerging gayness, lifts the lid on his discovery of a vast clandestine world - that stretched from members of parliament to long distance lorry drivers.A chance meeting with two local artists while 'cottaging' provided the springboard to a Soho demimonde that featured Muriel Belcher's Colony Room and a cast of characters that included Francis Bacon, Angus Wilson and Tom Driberg. While his friendship with Dudley, Bishop of Colchester, led to encounters with dodgy clerics and Margery Allingham, the crime writer queen. The author suggests that the 'cottage', long before later legal venues like gay pubs and discos arrived, was the only game in town for an underage provincial teenager. In a contemporary Britain starved of 'public conveniences' it is easy to forget their ubiquity in those times. The late Victorian 'spend a penny' brigade had decreed the building of these municipal marvels throughout the land, and fortunately for him the local worthy burghers had seen to it that Colchester was well endowed.Alongside his early adventures in 'queer society' Tim Hughes remembers with affection a group of talented school friends, and how some of them who were also friends of Dorothy, had their lives cut short by the arrival of the gay plague.

It was accidental how I met Heidi. It went down well between us. The holiday in the woods turned out to be something we had not bargained for; but later turned out brilliantly. Life moved on quickly with the adoption of Michael, conflict with his mother and her brother, and then the meeting with the space people. That was something special. Then earth in conflict, with the space people. Our neighbours got a taste of the mysterious. After that, the evacuation to Nepsi, a 5th Solar System planet and should I mention the amazing trip from Nepsi back to Earth…

Berwick Coates found it something of a shock when he worked out that he had taught over 40,000 lessons. However, with a record like that, it seemed not unreasonable to suppose that he might have a thing or two to say. Among others is the great truth that the classroom is not a democracy, a salon, a debating chamber, or a symposium; it is an arena, which is pervaded by a semi-permanent state of friendly undeclared war. Victory does not go to either side; you win some and you lose some. Survival depends on proper knowledge, awareness, flexibility, resilience, a willingness to learn, thinking on the feet, a sense of humour, and low cunning.

This book describes the history of a humble family that migrated from England to Ireland in the mid 17th c and put down roots at Kilconnor, County Carlow. By the end of the century many members of the family had joined the Society of Friends and were part of the landed gentry. During the late 17th c and 18th c family members established themselves elsewhere in Ireland and later in Australia, England and New Zealand where they rose to prominence in a wide variety of roles, eventually abandoning Friends for the established church. Today the family is still held in high regard for its past and ongoing contributions to equestrian sports including horse racing, fox-hunting, polo and in this era, three day eventing. In Ireland, Solomon Watson established a well-known but doomed bank in Clonmel, County Tipperary. John Henry Watson of Ballydarton, County Carlow, master of the Carlow and Island hunt, started the Watsons' association with hunting in which they became preeminent from the end of the 18th c. After serving in India, a later John Henry Watson helped develop the game of polo, and his Freebooters team won the first international polo match against the Americans. Corona Deane Lecky Watson is remembered with great affection for her exquisite cultivated gardens at Altamont, County Carlow, which she bequeathed to the Republic of Ireland. In recent times John Wilfred Watson represented Ireland in the Olympics, won silver in the world eventing championship and team gold in the Europeans. His son Samuel James Watson won a team silver in the same event in 2018.In England, John Boles Watson established theatres in the South-West, the Midlands and Wales, including the Theatre-Royal in Cheltenham, and in the 20th c John Arthur Fergus Watson became a reforming magistrate, prison visitor, campaigner on juvenile justice, author and president of the Royal Society of Chartered Surveyors. Alister George Douglas Watson was secretary of The Cambridge Apostles and friend of Keynes and Wittgenstein. During WWII he helped design millimetre radar and later became head of anti-submarine warfare research. Peter Wright, the author of 'Spycatcher' accused him of being 'the fifth man' although later evidence showed otherwise. In Australia, George John Watson, 'the prince of starters', developed the hunt in Victoria, ran a coaching business, bred horses, raced and helped found the Victorian Racing Club. His children were well-known sportsmen, adventurers and pioneers in Queensland and the Northern Territory. His cousin William Currie Watson, a popular sportsman, was a pioneer in Gippsland, Victoria, where he cleared 300-ft trees and dense scrub to create a dairy farm and help establish a thriving dairy industry. John Watson, another relative, shipped to New Zealand in 1843 where he was appointed magistrate for the wild frontier district of Akaroa on the South Island.Again, from the 19th c onwards, many family members served with distinction in the military, in India, South Africa, Europe and the middle east. The stories related in this book derive from meticulous research conducted by the authors who have utilied information provided by Watson descendants and from collections of diaries, photographs letters and other documents. The book is printed in colour with well referenced text, hundreds of illustrations, 30 tables and a comprehensive index. It includes genealogical charts for the various families, a colour code for each branch and an ID number for each individual.

The town of Kearsley, between Bolton and Manchester, has a rich and fascinating history. With around 500 pictures and 70,000 words this book attempts to convey how it has grown from a sparsely populated area comprising of no more than a few dozen farms and cottages to the busy and industrious town of today.Early township records show many interesting details, such as land ownership and how relief was administered to the poor and needy, but also how some unfortunate souls were removed to the dreaded workhouse. The earliest known written record of Kearsley is also shown which dates from around the year 1222, and special permission had to be granted for it to be photographed for reproduction in this book.Kearsley and the surrounding area became a hotbed for manufacturing as the industrial revolution took hold, with many factories and mills springing up, particularly beside the overworked River Irwell. There are numerous pictures, maps and documents to illustrate how these developed then declined during the twentieth century as post war Britain could no longer compete in these traditional industries. The coal industry is described along with its dangers, and details of several local mining disasters are given. A large section is dedicated to the Unity Brook colliery disaster, which to this day remains as the single worst tragedy in the history of Kearsley. Unique pictures that were drawn by a local artist at the scene of the disaster during the rescue operation have been uncovered and feature in this compelling section as well as evidence from the inquests that followed. There is a wealth of information on the schools, Churches, public houses, roads, bridges, tram-systems, railways, canals, farms and the former Kearsley Power Station. The neighbouring towns of Farnworth and Clifton are also largely featured, as is the district once referred to as Halshaw Moor, which took in parts of both Kearsley and Farnworth. Again, there are numerous rare and unique pictures, maps and documents to accompany all of these chapters and areas.

Westminster Abbey is primarily a working church and is set up as such; not as a museum. Yet the majority of visitors are not worshippers. They are there to wonder at the magnificence of the building and its history as told by the artefacts on display (e.g. the Coronation Chair) and the plethora of monuments and graves of those memorialised and/or buried there. Unlike a museum, few points of interest are identified by way of labels and, necessarily, only a very small minority of them can be included in a conveniently sized guidebook. There are over 3,000 people known to have been buried in the Abbey. There are stories behind many of them. This little book concentrates on some of those in the Nave and stories unlikely to be found in the usual guidebooks.

A fictional social history, which gets under the skin of 1960s England: its music and youth cultures and the more general social attitudes and behaviours of that decade. John Eves challenges the depiction of Mods vs Rockers in the 60s, comparing experiences of living in North London at that time, to those of young people growing up in the provinces. This is interspersed with stories of working life in a small provincial office environment, with shocking accounts of the sexism and sexual harassment 'tolerated' by the female staff. East Coast Blues - A 1960s Odyssey is the story of a young man coming of age in the 1960s; about how the Mod culture of the 1960s went sour through the mindless violence of a few. The novel reveals the jealousies, power struggles and disputes - mainly over girls - and challenges the bias of the press at the time, that all Mods were violent thugs. This is not an alternative history but the 1960s as one man remembers living it."Can be loosely compared to Absolute Beginners by Colin Macinnes with regard to its social commentary"
