Excellence in service is needed in the Military Hospitals in Malaysia to ensure the best and the most effective services are delivered. One of the factors that contribute to the provision of excellent services is the presence of competent managers. In this book, we report the outcome of a study aimed to determine the level of service excellence among managers and the factors influencing it in five Military Hospitals under the Ministry of Defence, Malaysia. A cross sectional study was conducted using self-administered questionnaires distributed to Military and Non-Military managers with different demographic backgrounds and service characteristics. The questionnaires consist of six components: the background of the respondents; the level of service excellence; skills; knowledge of the Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS), leadership style, and organisational compliance. By using the Structural Equation Model, findings of the study showed that all independent variables, i.e., skills, knowledge on BOS, leadership style and organisational compliance are significantly related to service excellence. Using Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression, it was discovered that managers in the lower grades, as well as Non-Military managers, demonstrated significant service excellence. In conclusion, the service excellence of managers in Military Hospitals is strongly influenced by their competencies. Military Hospitals administration should focus into the needs for training and suitable courses for Military managers in senior position to enhance their competencies.

Sarawak has a very diverse population comprising of many races and ethnic groups. Among the ethnic groups, the Orang Ulu (meaning upriver people) include the major Kayan and Kenyah, and the minor group like the Penans. The Penans are the original nomadic people; some of them still maintain the lifestyle of hunter and gatherer. The narration of this book is not meant to be an anthropological study of the Penans of Apoh-Tutoh, Baram. The subjects are more of general interest to common people as they are a mix of historical events recalled by the elders, storytelling and tall tales. It started with the Penan settlements at Lapok, Tinjar and the migration to Apoh-Tutoh. The role of the Penans as proxy warriors in the Kayan-Berawan tribal wars was explored as continued with the history of head hunting and Baram Regatta. The White Rajahs and their punitive expeditions (Lang, Sadok and Kayan) against the Sea Dayak of Saribas and Skrang, Rentap, the Kayans of Rajang and peace making are described to give perspective to the Baram Regatta and peace-making ceremony. However, there is increasing number of the Penans who have abandoned the nomadic lifestyle for settlements in longhouses. Hence, the Penans face the dilemma of a semi-settled lifestyle and changes due to development such as disappearing cultural heritage (sign sticks "oroo" and traditional dance "saryau titut"), lost generation (school dropouts, teenage mother, marriage with outsiders, sexual violence and exploitation and alcoholism), forestry issues and the disappearing Penan Landscape ("Tana' Pengurip Penan").

The story ended with a fierce battle between Balan Lejau and the two men that had kidnapped his wife. He defeated them both and brought back their heads back as trophy to his longhouse.
