At the age of four, because of the Easter bombings in May 1941, wewere bombed out of our beautiful home and evacuated to a farm thirtymiles north of Belfast, Northern Ireland. A year or so later, we returnedand lived in a very deprived area in the city. My father, an old soldier, was an alcoholic who smoked in the region of a thousand cigarettes aweek, so, the cupboards were bare and family life broke down. Mymother had little or no money for food, or even necessary items. Ibecame something of a problem child and was convicted of theft forstealing food. They put me in the care of an extremely tough children'shome until the age of sixteen. Because of the problems in my earlylife, I never did smoke or drink and at the age of twenty-six, marriedmy wife and we subsequently went into fostering and did it for manyyears along with our six children. We finally retired over forty-fiveyears later. My experiences gave me a lot of insight and I felt that Ihad a story that needed to be told, that's why I wrote my book; 'So youthink you want to Foster.'

To sail a yacht at sea is an experience of being at one with the elements of wind and water. A yacht is a living thing when it is in its element and responds always in sympathy with them. It heels under the weight of a breeze and cuts and slides up, over, and through the waves in a beautiful motion. This is a book of thirty drawings and watercolors that cover a day of racing, from heading out of the harbor to being safely anchored at the end of the day and from the drama of the start, through the beat to windward, to straining under the pull of a full spinnaker, and finally, the finish.
The life of a small boy living in a London suburb which sustained heavy damage from enemy bombing where over a hundred of its citizens were killed and only ten percent of its buildings survived the war unscathed. He recalls the terror of lying in a cupboard under the stairs as the Luftwaffe bombed his suburb and later devastation caused by V1 flying bombs and long range V2 rockets. His account encompasses a short period of evacuation to the safety of a country village and the relief experienced by a war torn populace when news of Hitler's death heralded the end of the Third Reich and the Second World War. The reminiscences also include details of his family's friendship with German prisoners of war. The main thread which weaves the narrative together lays in the many humorous episodes which punctuated his early years, particularly whilst in the British Army which at the time appeared to have changed only marginally since the carnage of the First World War.

This book traces the gender inequality in the church since the time of the early church fathers as well as the 1917 Code of Canon law, the Second Vatican Council and the 1983 Code of Canon law. The author explores the consistent pattern of women being unnamed and unnoticed. Yet there are incredible accounts in the Old and New Testament of women as teachers, prophets, judges, healers and deacons. Yet the passages proclaiming them are either excised from the lectionary or left out altogether. This author declares that it is now time to acknowledge and celebrate these forgotten women and to challenge one another and our church to also count them as equally effective leaders in the church. Men and women together are needed in order to live out the true message of equality and inclusivity which has always been the message of the Gospel.

Life is a journey - uphill and downhill, across mountains and plains, through paths of revelation and discovery, meaningfulness and adventure. Searching for God and finding the treasure recounts the journey of one woman's search for God as a Catholic Sister working for the Church. She wants to remind readers that the Catholic Church is not the 'perfect society' as the pre-Vatican council documents once described the church. The church, as the Vatican Council documents states, is the 'People of God.' She reveals to the reader that God is a God of surprise. God may be found in unexpected places and people. Where you expect to find God you may be surprised, and where you don't expect to find God, you may also be surprised. She reveals to the reader her experiences of 'being surprised.' But this author's primary message is that God is not a hidden God, and it is Jesus who tells us that where there is love there is God. God is here - in our loving, in our caring, in our generosity and more. God is always with us - even when we are conscious of our failure, our sin and when everything seems to be going wrong, God does not give up on us.
