    103,95 kr.

First published in 1931, "Black No More" is a clever and important satirical novel by George S. Schuyler which was written during the creative time of the Harlem Renaissance. This humorous and insightful work explores what would happen if blackness could be erased and black people could choose to become white. The novel begins with the central character Max Disher, a young, intelligent and ambitious black man, finding himself lonely and rejected on New Year's Eve at a speakeasy in Harlem. He hears about a new scientific procedure called "Black-No-More" that can change black skin to white. Max decides to undergo the transformation and changes his name to Matthew Fisher. Life is not as easy as he has imagined it will be. He ends up joining a white supremacist organization and must continue to hide his true identity in a new and dangerous world. Schuyler's novel was far ahead of its time and tackled racial issues that continue to plague the modern world. The novel's cutting social commentary, disguised with humor and satire, criticizes both the politics of black empowerment, white nationalism, and bigotry. "Black No More" continues to be as entertaining and thought-provoking today as when it was first written.

For many, Salvador Dali represents the Surrealist painter par excellence, one whose work explored his own dream life, hallucinations, and fetishes in the process of objectifying the irrational elements of the unconscious. In this rare and important volume, the painter expresses (in his inimitably eccentric fashion) his ideas of what painting should be, expounds on what is good and bad painting, offers opinions on the merits of Vermeer, Picasso, Cézanne, and other artists, and expresses his thoughts on the history of painting.Illustrated with the artist's own drawings, this volume is a fascinating mixture of serious artistic advice, lively personal anecdotes, and academic craftsmanship. It is, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, "in lay-out and clarity of design... a remarkable work of art in itself." Especially esteemed for its insights into modern art, 50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship is indispensable reading for any student of Surrealism or 20th century avant-garde painting.Technique and craftmanship of Dali painting. Dalí presents 50 "secrets" for mastering the art of painting and achieving artistic success. A must-have work for anyone interested in Dali, Surrealism, and 20th century art.

These 25 chess games played between master and amateur were chosen, arranged, and annotated to help amateurs improve their games. What better way could the amateur have of learning to exploit the weak play of fellow amateurs than to study how a master would handle such situations? Selected by former World Chess Champion Max Euwe and Walter Meiden, a typical amateur player, the games point out graphically how the chess master takes advantage of characteristic errors of the amateur. In general, the games have been presented in order of the degree of skill of the amateur. The early games were played against beginners; later games, against "coffeehouse" players of various skill levels; the last games, against amateur "book" players. Each game, with commentary by Dr. Euwe, was chosen to illustrate a specific aspect of chess, from various openings to a number of typical chess situations. By carefully studying these games, the amateur player will learn how to recognize and avoid a variety of weak strategic and tactical moves.Dr. Euwe's helpful and informative commentary on each contest consists of a discussion of significant moves in the game, an analysis of the opening used and explanations of important chess concepts as they arise. Often, he includes a detailed analysis of tactical variations that might have been played as alternatives. The result is an indispensable aid for amateurs seeking to raise the quality of their games as well as a book that can be read with profit by chess players at every level of expertise.

They say that a man needs a woman to go to hell with. Cassidy had two. One was Mildred, the wife who kept him chained with ties of fear and jealousy and paralyzing sexual need. The other was Doris, a frail angel with a 100-proof halo and a bottle instead of a harp. With those two, Cassidy found that the ride to hell could be twice as fast.Cassidy's Girl has all the traits that made its author a virtuoso of the hard-boiled: a fiercely compelling ploy; characters who self-destruct in spectacularly unpredictable ways; and an insider's knowledge of all the routes to the bottom.

    F. J. Huegel's inspiring manual instructs ordinary Christians to not live in imitation of Jesus Christ, but journey beyond this by being mindful of Christ's life and teachings, thus attaining closeness to God.A moving and authentic guidebook of faith, Bone of His Bone struck an immediate chord upon first publication in 1940. F. J. Huegel's tone and style of writing rings with sublime clarity, permitting the reader a great ease comprehension and understanding. Having witnessed carnage and horror first-hand as a chaplain in World War I, Huegel is in superb position to educate and assure his readers.Huegel frames his narrative with frequent quotation of the scripture, supporting the various ideas and advice with passages of the Old and New Testament. This authenticity, coupled with the tone of devotion and dedication, makes this book a worthy resource for any Christian seeking advice; Huegel differentiates the theological canon with one's everyday life, noting that Christ's behavior and deeds may be treated as a starting point, rather than an ending in themselves.Although Bone of His Bone represents a break of opinion with famous authors such as Thomas à Kempis, it is with the truest humility and grace that F. J. Huegel advances his views on how Christians may best adhere to God. This abiding belief - that true satisfaction and joy results from participation in Christ's teachings, rather than in imitation of His life - makes Bone of His Bone a text worthy of attention.

A description of Karma as experienced by each individual astrological sign; includes Vedic and Tibetan methods for evaluating past and future lives from the birth chart. Astrology is another disputed subject which is gaining widespread public support. With computerization available, almost every aspect of prediction can be explored scientifically. Many prominent minds of the past have accepted both reincarnation and astrology, and it is only natural that the two beliefs have much in common. If we have lived before, it would be interesting to discover, if possible, the place, time, and circumstances of a previous embodiment. In many cases, of course, such knowledge might have traumatic effects. Most individuals find memories of the present life difficult to bear. The walls of the Borobudur, a magnificent Buddhist ruin on the island of Java, are decorated with scenes from the 600 previous lives of Gautama Buddha. Only the Perfectly Enlightened One could contemplate such a panorama of previous births with reasonable composure. To most Buddhists rebirth is a simple fact. It is one of the determining elements in the ethical and moral philosophies of these people. The question naturally arises: Would it be possible astrologically to prove beyond a shadow of doubt that reincarnation is an actual fact? Could a chart be set up at the time of death which would be the birth chart of the entity entering the spiritual world, and would it be possible for such a chart to reveal the condition of that entity in the after-death state as well as the time and place of its rebirth on the physical plane? Would it also be conceivable that a birth chart of the present life could provide some clue to the previous incarnation? Hindu philosophers would answer these questions in the affirmative, but Western thinkers have strong reservations.

Josef Pieper has attached no commentary to the texts brought together in this breviary of the philosophy of St. Thomas, preferring that the reader should encounter them, "on his own". His work has been one of selection, in which he has sought to assemble such passages as will provide an introduction to the form and design of the whole Thomistic system. Yet he has so ordered his texts as to impress upon the reader a special feature of St. Thomas's thought, what he calls its double aspect: St. Thomas sees the whole scheme of reality ordered and penetrable by reason; yet the mystery of Being itself remains: "The effort of human thought has not been able to track down the essence of a single gnat." Author Josef Pieper himself was one of the most highly regarded Thomistic philosophers of the twentieth century.
