As Christians, it is our responsibility to teach our children about God and the wonderful truths found in the Bible. And while this can sometimes feel overwhelming, keep in mind that you are not alone. The ABC Book of God's Friends is a delightful book that introduces children to a variety of biblical characters. These characters come alive through the book's use of bright, colorful illustrations and fun, simple poetry. Each story receives its own short poem and beautiful illustration, helping young audiences connect to the book's characters. The presentation of these characters in alphabetical order is not only a great way for children to learn the alphabet but it also helps them to retain what they have learned. The ABC Book of God's Friends covers stories found in both the Old and New Testaments and showcases people who genuinely loved the Lord. And while this book is meant to be an introduction to biblical characters and basic Bible truths, it is important for families to strive to spend more time together in God's Word. A simple way to do this is by using the scriptural reference guide found at the end of this book. This guide lists the books, chapters, and verses where these stories can be found in the Bible. Enjoy spending time in God's Word and in so doing grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18 NIV). I pray that God bless you and your family as you learn more about His wonderful love.

During the post-war era in Communist East Germany in the seventies, Karen von Wagner is enjoying her life in East Berlin. She had grown up indebted and grateful to the GDR for giving her an excellent education in the arts in spite of what her father had done and was imprisoned for--guilty of war crimes as an SS Nazi. He had been arrested and taken to prison when she was barely five. At fifteen, she was told by an official he had died in Siberia. She had always been ashamed of him for his diabolical crimes and felt no remorse. In fact, she was glad he was dead.In her schooling, she achieved high marks in most of her classes, if not all. By twenty-one, she had become East Germany's famous actress and singer and, above all, a staunch communist.During a party in a ballroom she was hosting (her apartment in the same building), she rescues an unconscious American, Mike Whitman, from Russian robbers whom she believes had drugged him. The man is taken to her apartment by her uncle and a friend. Her grandfather, a doctor, saves Whitman's life. But soon, all three realize the robbers are KGB agents, and Whitman is a unique CIA spy. Karen demands that her uncle and grandfather, who live with her, turn him over to the authorities. But her two and only family members are against it.During Whitman's recovery, Karen discovers the true reason why her father was imprisoned. It was for being a pastor of an underground church in East Berlin. Her whole world turns upside down.

The Berliners is a collection of stories revolving around three very different pairs of lovers who find each other at the wrong place and the wrong time. The place: Berlin, Germany. The time: three decades in the twentieth century, each with its own unique social and political implications. The tragedy of true love both found and forbidden cycles in each story. The question remaining to be answered during the course of each plot is whether or not our heroes will be able to overcome the obstacles of war, political division, and racism and finally arrive at both accepting themselves and being accepted by society in their unique time and place. The story of Heinrich and Paul follows their relationship from adolescence during compulsory attendance at a Hitler Youth program and on through their years of self-loathing as members of the Nazi Party and armed forces. The antiheroes of this story struggle to accept themselves and their sexuality while also battling the guilt and hypocrisy of their crimes and inhumanity under the Third Reich.During the 1970s, we witness the serendipitous affair between West Berliner Thomas Gaettens and East Berliner Marita Luettig. Their brief relationship spans the limits of the Berlin Wall and family obligation over personal indulgence. Our protagonists are faced with the difficult prospect of overcoming the barrier that stands between their two worlds. Their dangerous relationship is quickly enveloped in suspicion, fear, and hopelessness under the pressure of the authoritarian government and its powerful police force, the Stasi. Finally, the contemporary tale of Hilal and Peter recounts the turbulent love story of a young German student and Turkish girl from school. This story is based on true events that took place in Berlin in 2006. The conflicts that exist even today between the former guest-worker Turkish population of Germany and the native Germans is reflected in the couple's confrontation against the conservative, religious views of Hilal's father. In the final chapters of the novel, our three stories begin to intertwine in modern times. Berlin herself is perhaps the main character of the entire book, bearing witness to this recurring motif of lovers unable to find peace with each other in the capital. The reader is left to question why the universality of this theme seems to exist and reemerge throughout human history, particularly in the history of Berlin and Germany.
