"Forever--is composed of Nows" Emily Dickinson Writing haiku is one way to stay present, in the now. This collection contains one "now," one haiku moment for each day in 2012, along with a zendoodle for each month of the year. The seasons change and personal, local, even worldwide events may be found in these haiku. Even more than that, these haiku focus on the poet's home and the beauty found there amid diversity and color. Life in a purple house with a blue metal roof, an outdoor shower and a hot tub in a yard surrounded by conifers of all kinds on a rural island comes alive as the haiku explore a world of dogs, cats, birds, snails, slugs, frogs, hummingbirds, spiders, squirrels, occasional deer, and myriad other inhabitants. All life is celebrated, and there is rarely any need to leave home to find wonder and beauty. Wherever we are, we are surrounded by miracles, whether it is the dew on a spider's web or a slug making its way along a purple walkway. Meditating on these moments, using them to craft haiku, presents a powerful way to stay in the present, the only place where life is really lived. If we take time for now rather than worrying about the future or fretting over the past, our forever will take care of itself. I hope you enjoy sharing my year with me. I have studied the two cover concepts which you have provided me and I certainly appreciate all the hard work you did to make them. While one of the concepts is definitely closer to what I had in mind, neither one makes use of my primary requests. Both in my questionnaire and my phone consultation I stressed that color, bright colors, was very important. I am color challenged so I need colors which are definite and clear, and my concept of color, as I also mentioned, does not mean black or brown or neutrals, but vibrant colors. In addition, I asked that if nature was included, that it had to be distinctly Pacific Northwest with conifers--firs, pines, spruces, hemlocks etc. and not deciduous trees. I am attaching a zip file with three photos of my home and yard to give you a sense of who I am. And I have completed my back cover text and if you read that you can, I hope, see why I need a cover that meets these specifications. Many thanks for understanding.

Seven year old Lucy had been playing in her tree house when the earth shook and her life changed forever. The earthquake killed her mother, cost Lucy her right hand, and destroyed what little grasp her father had on humanity. The next six years were a nightmare for Lucy, one from which she thought she would never awaken. She suffered with abuse and bullying, at home, at school, and later at her part-time job. She found her only comfort with animals, the cows on her father's dairy farm and the patients at the animal clinic where she worked. Lucy had the incredibly rare ability to sense what other creatures were feeling, but she kept that a secret after her father ridiculed her and beat her for mentioning her ability. Lucy had a vague memory of being rescued after the earthquake by a purple dragon and her rider, Esmeralda and Emily, who then flew her to the dragon riders' hospital. Lucy treasured the feeling of warmth and caring that she had received then. She frequently dreamed about dragons and flying. However, her father had forbidden the dragon riders from ever returning to their farm, so Lucy hadn't seen them since the earthquake. Little did she know that the dragon riders, especially Emily and her dragon Esmeralda, were trying to find out how Lucy was doing. When Lucy was thirteen, after a particularly horrible day, she would discover the beginnings of a new life as Emily and Esmeralda rescue her once again.

Dragon Magic is the beautiful tale of a young girl who has never fit in-not even in her own family. And before the story even starts to get better, it gets worse. Criticized by her embittered mother, Chloe can't even get excited about being selected as a dragon rider candidate-until she's actually there. But before she can savor the joy of even being a potential rider, she gets passed over by all of the dragon hatchlings and is once again left on the sidelines. And if that wasn't bad enough, her mother disowns her, leaving her to fend for herself in the woods. But it is here, of all places, in the lonely and fearful darkness, that she begins to find her way. An adventurous coming-of-age fantasy that will tug at your heartstrings and inspire your own search for identity, this story leads readers through a fully developed world of dragons and magic. But for all its fantastical elements, its people are just as real and familiar as those in our world as they deal with family drama and self-doubt. A good read for people of all ages, young girls will be particularly inspired by Chloe's courageous journey.
