It also covers marital and family issues. There are facts included throughout the book to reveal the prevalence of each topic and listed resources to increase knowledge in those areas. Scripture is included throughout the book to provide solid Christian counsel through each topic.If someone came up to you today to reveal they are considering suicide or that they are addicted to porn or prescribed drugs, would you know what to say to them? What if someone wants to talk to you because they believe their spouse is having an affair, or a mother believes her child is being molested or bullied, or their adult child is being abused by their spouse? Would you know how to advise them? Are your words subjective? Are they productive? Are your words factual and scriptural?As a church, we need to teach that Christ is a loving and forgiving God. Who was Jesus? A bishop recently used His biography to illustrate a good theological point when he described Him as 'an uneducated man from Nazareth, son of a poor carpenter named Joseph who preached in several synagogues'.The implication is that all the wisdom Jesus exhibits comes from God who would surely have informed Him of modern technology, whereas Jesus clearly demonstrates a detailed knowledge of Alexandrine philosophy. Then why would a poor carpenter make a long journey to Bethlehem to register for Roman taxation? The Roman taxation system depended upon identifying wealth and grabbing a portion of it.In this book we try to answer these conundrums by looking at the New Testament and attempting to separate myth from history. We arrive at the almost inevitable conclusion that Jesus was the son of Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy merchant of Alexandria, received His education at the best of institutions of the time and married Mary Magdalene to qualify to speak in a synagogue. The main character in this book, a true, real-life person, was an unassuming man brought up in a large, working class family. His life would begin in 1918 and he and his family would survive the depression on near poverty wages. He would go on to serve as a decorated airman in World War II and come home to restart his life suffering from PTSD. With that, life would deal him many adversities and challenges, many of them self-inflicted, but each time he would overcome. He would struggle with the effects of combat on civilian life and would use alcohol to substitute for counseling much to his dismay. Tilly as he was called by his wartime air crew, returned home and went back to work to put the war behind him and get on with life. He would have a family of his own, raising three children on near poverty wages and suffered from alcoholism and depression most his life while his family suffered the effects of life's challenges. Much later in life, he began talking about his wartime experiences and this would help him to readjust to life as he knew it. However, returning to alcohol would bring him and his family hardships that would be difficult to reconcile. Every person who served in a combat role feels the effects of war and deals with those effects in varying degrees of tolerance. Many returning veterans restore their lives and go on to become productive members of society, but never forgetting their combat experiences. Many go on to college and become successful professionals in their fields of endeavor and lose the effects of war it would seem.
