El Museo de Arte de Ponce es una institución puertorriqueña cuyo foco principal es el arte europeo. A lo largo de los años, ha reunido una colección española tan ecléctica como interesante, representativa de un impresionante abanico de periodos, géneros, técnicas, formatos y escuelas a lo largo de más de cuatro siglos de pintura y escultura españolas. Con cerca de cinco mil objetos elaborados en diferentes técnicas --que van desde la antigua China budista hasta la América Latina contemporánea, pasando por la Inglaterra victoriana y la Europa del siglo XVII--, el Museo de Arte de Ponce es la institución más grande de su tipo en el Caribe y ocupa un lugar privilegiado entre los museos del continente americano en su conjunto. La naturaleza y calidad de su acervo pueden resultar sorprendentes, y una serie de factores históricos entran en juego a la hora de entender la feliz anomalía de su ubicación en un país que no se había distinguido por sus colecciones de pintura antigua. El presente libro, dedicado al arte español de antes de 1900, ha sido posible gracias a una generosa beca de investigación y publicación de la Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, que brindó la oportunidad de inventariar y reexaminar los 49 objetos incluidos en el catálogo, entre los que destacan obras de Claudio Coello, Francisco de Goya, Pedro de Mena, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, El Greco y Joaquín Sorolla, entre otros. The Ponce Museum of Art is a Puerto Rican institution whose main focus is European art. Over the years, it has brought together a Spanish collection that is as eclectic as it is interesting, representative of an impressive range of periods, genres, techniques, formats and schools throughout more than four centuries of Spanish painting and sculpture. With nearly five thousand objects made using different techniques --ranging from ancient Buddhist China to contemporary Latin America, passing through Victorian England and 17th century Europe--, the Ponce Museum of Art is the largest institution of its kind. type in the Caribbean and occupies a privileged place among the museums of the American continent as a whole. The nature and quality of its collection can be surprising, and a series of historical factors come into play when it comes to understanding the happy anomaly of its location in a country that had not been known for its collections of ancient painting. This book, dedicated to Spanish art before 1900, has been made possible thanks to a generous research and publication grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which provided the opportunity to inventory and re-examine the 49 objects included in the catalogue, including which include works by Claudio Coello, Francisco de Goya, Pedro de Mena, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, El Greco and Joaquín Sorolla, among others.

An updated archive of Alÿs' long-term study of children's enduring need for playSince 1999, Belgian multimedia artist Francis Alÿs (born 1959) has been producing videos that document the games that children play on the street and in courtyards around the world. Children's Games is an ongoing archive of the urban practices that modernity has banished from everyday life, as the concepts of public space and free time have grown increasingly distorted by the domination of motor vehicles and electronic diversions. Many of these videos were shot in economically underdeveloped regions of the world, where the strength of tradition and community have allowed the shared life of a childhood on the street to survive. The children's games that Alÿs captures gesture toward a threatened underground culture crossing generations and borders. Their rules, images and references suggest an ancient, potent substrate underlying our shared experience.

Anthropomorphic skyscraper sculptures from a master of found materialsMexican artist Damián Ortega (born 1967) makes sculptures and installations from industrial objects such as VW car parts and trash barrels. This project features a small-scale "city" of skyscrapers with the heads of animals alongside disembodied workers' garments and wrinkled, patterned collages made from cement bags.

At the age of sixty-three, Álvaro Mutis took up the character that had appeared sporadically in his poetry and turned him into the central figure of a narrative cycle consisting of seven novels, written between 1986 and 1993, to which the author himself gave the general title of Empresas y tribulaciones de Maqroll el Gaviero. This edition gathers the complete fictional cycle of Maqroll el Gaviero, the main character in all seven novels: La nieve del Almirante, Ilona llega con la lluvia, Un bel morir, La última escala del Tramp Steamer, Amirbar, Abdul Bashur, soñador de navíos, and Tríptico de mar y tierra. Maqroll el Gaviero has earned a place as one of the legendary characters of world literature. Recent photography of Buenos Aires, taken within the context of the city's budding "me too" movementMexican photographer Pablo Ortiz Monasterio (born 1952) travelled to Buenos Aires three times between 2016 and 2018, photographing the city's women as the "me too" movement gained traction across South America. This second of Julio Cortázar's almanac-books was first published in Mexico in 1969 and designed by Julio Silva. There is also a farewell to Theodor W.
