This long-awaited book gives information on some 136 men who served in the Revolutionary War and who later settled in Bedford County. It also gives similar information on a number of other men who served in the Revolutionary War and moved into Bedford County for a brief period before moving elsewhere. The main portion of this information is taken from the individual's Revolutionary War Pension Applications as well as from family sources, such as Bible records when such information was available to the authors. It contains one person's complete service record, depositions of other soldiers and neighbors regarding his service; battles, etc. he served in; when born, and death date, as well as, when available, where the soldier was buried. The authors also provide some information on the first generation of descendants of each soldier when such information is available.

This is another of the MUCH-NEEDED books on Middle Tennessee to fill in the gaps for families migrating into and through this area on their way westward. Montgomery County was involved in the Walker Line dispute with the state of Kentucky which later they lost and portions of the county were granted to Kentucky. In these minutes of pleas & quarters sessions you will find appointments of county officials, appointed administrators, marked public roads, granting of licenses to "ordinaries", taxes being levied, civil actions of a wide variety and persons being tried for offenses against the peace & dignity of the State.

These records of deaths come from The Federal Union, a newspaper that was being published out of Milledgeville, GA. These records were originlly to be included in "Marriage & Obituaries from Early Georgia Newspapers". Unfortunately they were left out but were just recently rediscovered. This book should be considered a companion volume to the above mention book. These Obituaries mention not only the recently deceased but often times other family members as well such as mothers, fathers, children, sibilings. Cause of death is always given along with date of death and when a murder is committed, the person committing the murder is given as well. The Index mentions approximately 2,000 names.

It was a important migration path for early settlers moving into Tennessee, Georgia and North & South Carolina. Many of her early settlers were from Pennsylvania, including Germans, Quakers, Welch and Scot-Irish. Also many families through out Virginia relocated here from such counties as: Brunswick, Charlotte, Amelia, Prince Edward, and other Tidewater counties. This book contains not only wills of individuals, but also guardians and administrators bonds; bastardy, apprentice, trustees, sheriffs and treasurers bonds, and inventories of estates. The names of approximately 14,500 persons are found in these legal records of this important county.
