This book reviews dominant crisis communication theories, which according to many scholars are either too narrow or broad for practical application to all types of reputational crises. Freeman, as the progenitor of modern stakeholder theory, has spent much time since the original publication trying to remove the primary focus from companies to that of achieving broader positive outcomes for organisations, populations, and the operating environment. This book embraces the ethos of Freeman¿s revisions and applies it to crisis communication through placing the reputational crisis at the centre of a stakeholder map, where other literature places the company at the centre of the stakeholder map. This leaves the company experiencing the crisis situated with all other crisis stakeholders to develop solutions to the source of conflict, and as a result, the reputational crisis.Removing the corporation from the centre allows for other stakeholders such as interest groups, politicians, media, and afflicted stakeholders, to legitimately work towards solving the crisis. This book uses a typology of apologia and builds upon it to create a means that allows corporate managers to genuinely apologise to crisis victims, without necessarily exposing the corporation to financial liability claims. The apologia construct developed herein is equally useful to CEO¿s as it is in a domestic situation.Consistent throughout this book is the philosophy that all reputational crises can be either solved, or significantly reduced in terms of impact. Examples used throughout relate to reader¿s personal lives as well as structured powerful organisations.

This book describes the concept, characteristics, methodology, design, management, business, recent advances and future technologies of plant factories with artificial lighting (PFAL) and indoor vertical farms. The third wave of PFAL business started in around 2010 in Japan and Taiwan, and in USA and Europe it began in about 2013 after the rapid advances in LED technology. The book discusses the basic and advanced developments in recent PFALs and future smart PFALs that emerged in 2016.There is an emerging interest around the globe in smart PFAL R&D and business, which are expected to play an important role in urban agriculture in the coming decades. It is also expected that they will contribute to solving the trilemma of food, environment and natural resources with increasing urban populations and decreasing agricultural populations and arable land area.Current obstacles to successful PFAL R&D and business are: 1) no well-accepted concepts and methodology for PFAL design and management, 2) lack of understanding of the environmental effects on plant growth and development and hydroponics among engineers; 3) lack of understanding of the technical and engineering aspects of PFAL among horticulturists; 4) lack of knowledge of the technical challenges and opportunities in future PFAL businesses among business professionals, policy makers, and investors and 5) lack of a suitable textbook on the recent advances in PFAL technologies and business for graduate students and young researchers. This book covers all the aspects of successful smart PFAL R & D and business.

This collection scrutinizes the representation, dynamics, transformation and/or adaptation of various heroes and heroines in different folkloric traditions and narratives in the context of Asia. Exploring notions in the topics of mythologies, folktales, literature, theatre performance and any other art forms, the volume collates discussions on the pragmatic and aesthetic representation of men and women within the mythic world, and within contemporary settings. In doing so, it produces a contemporary theorization of Asian heroes and heroines beyond their mythic structure and folkloric limits. In considering the representation of heroes and heroines in the Asian folkloric tradition, and in comparative contexts, the book establishes connections between characters from myths and folktales and those found in contemporary narratives, considers the adaptation and transformation of heroes and heroines as revealed in a variety of literary works, and also assesses the gendering of social roles in modern literature and other art forms. It is of interest to scholars and advanced students in comparative literature, Asian cultural studies and theatre and performance.

This book examines how emerging environmental challenges are situated within existing International Relations (IR) theoretical understandings of 'security'. As governments in the Global South undertake policy interventions to mitigate the impact of increasing climatic changes and yearn to achieve human-nature harmony, one can observe similar patterns of responses chiefly due to the ecology-economy dichotomy in these states and their societies. In this context, it brings to the readers various aspects of the theory and practice of state interventions in the form of environmental securitization in the Global South majorly under four themes (encompassing theory and policy processes). Chapters in this volume explicate connections between the environment and International Relations Theory, securitization in developing countries, state society and the environment in India and China and lastly, public participation and environmental policymaking. It presents a comprehensive and coherent overview of the politics of securitization in India and China, two prominent economies in the Global South. Faculty and researchers who work on non-western International Relations theory and non-traditional security threats, policy practitioners and experts in environmental policymaking, and students of IR and Comparative Politics, chiefly, will benefit from this book.Dr Joe Thomas Karackattu is Associate Professor with the Humanities and Social Sciences Department at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India. He was "CISLI Fellow" (2017-19) at the New School, New York and "Fox Fellow" (2008-09) at Yale University.Dr Justin Joseph currently works as Assistant Professor at the School of Social Sciences and Languages (SSL), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University, Chennai Campus, India.Dr Ramnath Reghunadhan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Sciences in School of Social Sciences and Languages (SSL), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University, Vellore Campus, India.

This book describes the basic concepts and principles of classical mechanics in the intermediate level. Given the perspective that different mechanical problems require an appropriate approach drawn from various methods or principles, a textbook discussing multiple methods or principles in mechanics is highly desirable. Additionally, a good textbook should include historical context on the motivation and the development of the methods or principles, allowing students to gain insights that may help them discover new theories. However, after many years of teaching Dynamics in the graduate school, the authors were unable to find a suitable intermediate-level textbook on classical mechanics, which motivated them to begin writing this book. For the aforementioned reasons, this book includes the descriptions of various methods or principles in mechanics, such as the Newton-Euler Principle, the d'Alembert Principle, Lagrangian methods, Gauss's Principle of Least Constraint, the Gibbs-Appell equation, Jourdain's equation, the Principle of Virtual Power, the Appell-Kane method, the Hamilton Principle, and the Hamiltonian mechanics, among others. Moreover, many historical remarks on the motivation and the development of the methods or principles are given in this book, as well as numerous applications. The authors also believe that in studying the motion of a material body, different models may be used depending on the application. If the position of the body is of interest, a particle model may be chosen. If the orientation or attitude of the body is under consideration, a rigid body model should be adopted. If deformation is a concern, a model of deformable body should be applied. Consequently, a book in mechanics for engineers should encompass a variety of models of the body, ranging from particles to continua such as solids or fluids. This book also meets that need.
