Being a former high school English teacher, he has always had a deep love for literature, especially fiction, and has dreamed of being an author since his youth. He currently lives with his wife in central North Carolina. Together they have two children, an amazing son-in-law, a beautiful daughter-in-law and five wonderful grandchildren. His passion is to continue writing novels based on fictional characters that struggle with and overcome the types of real-life issues that we all face. His desire is to inspire his readers to never give up hope, regardless of the obstacles that often block their paths, but to move forward with confidence until their dreams and goals become a reality.

It is 2015 and Author Betsy Jane Blaine is writing her first novel exploring the possible explanation of the phenomena of déjà vu (The feeling that you have seen or experienced something previously). The story begins in 17th century Plymouth, England and follows a boy and girl through time and space - from sailing on the Mayflower - to landing in a sand pit in Topeka, Kansas in 1960 - to chasing thieves in 2015. The adventures they engage in lead to making new friends, thwarting thieves, recovering stolen gems, and discovering many of the wonderful inventions of the 20th and 21st centuries. Throughout the story, multiple experiences of déjà vu present themselves to the various characters, leading up to the conclusion of the story when Betsy discovers something completely unexpected in her own life. Barbara Anderson is a retired elementary teacher presently living and experiencing life in a 25-foot RV. She enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, her dog, Murphy, and her many friends. Since retiring, Barbara has enjoyed quilting, wood carving, kayaking, motorcycling, song-writing, playing music, and now authoring a novel. She seldom meets an adventure she doesn't like or a challenge she doesn't accept. Always looking for a new experience, Barbara writes with the same attitude she tries to live by - always be up for a new adventure!

Early years of the twentieth century were peaceful throughout Europe. Peasants, in childish innocence, harvested pastoral fields, as children played. But the Military minded; such as Otto Bismarck, planned for Empire, Kaiser Hohenzollern II, would inherit the "World's Greatest Empire", with Germany, Prussia, and Austria-Hungary as inheritors. The lives of Ilona Valko's family would suffer in these plans of "expansion". All families in Europe were rudely shaken in 1914. Geza Virag was shipped to the Italian Front, buried alive in 1917; dug out by his buddies, taken to Vienna to recuperate, and was sent back in 1918, to participate in the fatal 1918, Battle of The Piave. Christian youth were taught to kill; Priests blessed their rifles as soldiers went relentlessly to kill "God's Children". Such is the legacy Anthony would have his two sons, three grandsons and immigrant Magyars residing in North America, and elsewhere, to remember.. Anthony Virag was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, to Hungarian parents that had immigrated to Canada. Raised in a Hungarian community, he learned much about his Magyar heritage from stories of "The Old Country". Inspired, he recorded them; and re-wrote the experiences of his father's Virag family, his mother's Valko family, and acquaintances. He completed public school at age 14, (1945). The family then moved to a 100 acre "garden crop" farm. They sold this one in1949, and moved onto a 260 acre dairy farm in Waterford, Ontario. Anthony, his brother John, and their father developed this into White Way dairy farm. Anthony married Bonnie, (author of The Stovepipe), in 1955; returned to Waterford Hugh School as an adult graduating in 1960. He worked as a Civil Engineer Technologist in Kitchener. Immigrating to Michigan in 1964, where they spent the next fifty-three years, he was an Industrial Engineer, (Massey Ferguson), Research & Development, (Cadillac Motors), while continuing his education and graduating with a BSc, (Mechanical Engineering), at age forty in 1971. At Ford Motor Company he wore many hats, Process Engineer, Safety Engineer and Homologation Engineer. Anthony and Bonnie now reside in The Villages, Florida.

My philosophy as an educator is that all students have the capacity to be successful given the appropriate learning environment. During your reading, you will notice that great emphasis is placed on activities that include the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains. I am a proponent of new research-based strategies and very much aware of the brain-based and cooperative learning approach. It is important for students to make connections to prior learning before they are introduced to new concepts. This will strengthen the cognitive connections in their brains. The emphasis should be placed on the concept of constructivism where students are able to connect their prior knowledge to new knowledge. Therefore, it is important that our teachers are knowledgeable about their students to ensure adequate planning for instruction. I was inspired to write this book due to the low performance and poor strategic approach which results in low attendance rate in schools. Many of our students are misunderstood. It is imminent that teachers receive ongoing support in understanding the learning styles of males and females. Teachers need ongoing strategies to ensure that our students are intellectually engaged. There is a lack of equity and access in the classroom. Teachers need support in creating engaging research-based learning activities.

Trace-metal water quality sampling is plagued by poor technique. In many instances, the sampler contributes upwards of 80% of the metal concentration that is not present in the original sample. Expensive water treatment options are the unintended consequence. The complicated approach used for the past 25 years is broken down into simple steps without specialized equipment. The less is more approach drastically reduces potential contamination sources during the sampling process. The book pinpoints hundreds of conditions and anticipated concentrations that add pollutants during the sampling process. Duplicate samples are examined to determine why there is a difference in values. Cosmetics, brake dust, clothing, jewelry, eyeglasses, wind direction, sample location, and structures contribute minimal metal contamination. Rick's introduction to 'Clean Sampling' happened in 1993 as Project Manager for the Taunton, Massachusetts Wastewater Plant. Subsequent positions included overseeing the pretreatment and Phase II MS4 programs for Manchester, NH. These programs required extensive sampling, a second nature activity for this Author. In 2000 the EPA began issuing permits in New Hampshire and Massachusetts requiring metal limits. Rick successfully completed a study with the NHDES that removed metals treatment from the Manchester Permit. After retirement, Rick completed similar sampling projects for several plants in both states. Again, the result was metals concentrations below Water Quality criteria and the elimination of metal limits in facility permits. Rick's documented experience and success provide a road map for obtaining high-quality, trace-metal data under many sampling scenarios.
