The book "Integrated Force Projection by India" attempts to highlight the fact that a mere congregation of soldiers, sailors and airmen do not make a Regional Power. It emphasizes, without wandering on the fringes of any blustering rhetoric or puffery, that the proverbial 'synergy' is, in fact, ab elemental imperative for force projection and there

Revolution in military affairs has made armaments/weapons a major component of defence capability. The exponential growth of technology has resultedin the cutting edge being eroded very rapidly necessitating constant up gradation / replacement of defence hardware. Apart from government policies and capital intensiveness the DIB also has to view production and technology management procedures, research and development base, and human resource development for its sustenance. This book examines the technological life cycle of defence equipment and enumerates the experience and practices followed by some developed countries towards creating a vibrant defence industrial base. This is followed by an analysis of policies with regard to Defence Expenditure, Defence Aquisition and offset clauses for Import. The present status of Indian DIB, Research and Development Infrastructure, Ordanance factories and other Science and Technology agencies too has been elucidated to arrive at what is presently available. The sectoral requirements in terms of capability required by our land, sea and air forces have also been identified to include Electronic and Cyber Warfare domain.
A series of international human rights treaties and other instruments adopted since 1945 have conferred legal status on inherent human rights and developed the body of international human rights law. However, human rights violations are a fact of life in all countries, though to differing degrees. These violations involve all kinds of rights: civil, cultural, social, economic, and political. Access to justice is a basic human right, as well as an indispensable means of combating poverty and preventing and resolving conflict. Access to justice means much more than improving an individual's access to courts. It is about ensuring that legal and judicial outcomes are just and equitable and that systems work in practice for the poor and disadvantaged, who tend to get victimized by corrupt or indifferent officials, without having a reasonable chance to seek legal remedies for their grievances. This book contains 62 international documents dealing with human rights and the administration of justice under one cover. The chapters have been so organized as to provide easy reference based on the status of the victim. This handy reference is a must for members of the armed forces and police, legal fraternity, NGOs, human rights activists, academicians and researchers.

This book contains factual defence-related treaties, agreements and other documents without making any opinions or carrying out analysis, which has been left to the wisdom of readers. The book is set out in a sequence so as to provide a platform for research. The book also provides a ready reference material at the macro level. Where the full length of some of the treaties, agreements and documents is not included due to reasons of space, the core issues have been brought out in the form of extracts/brief descriptions. Those involved in geo-political and geo-strategic studies, whether in universities or in professional fields, particularly the defence services officers and officers from the para-military organisations, will find the book useful.

This book is dedicated to the Mumbaikars, whose voices of protests have shaken the conscience of the power elites in New Delhi. We hope and pray that they display a similar resolve as the citizen of Mumbai for a terror free Mumbai and India. Multiple terror attacks struck Mumbai, India's financial capital on the night of 26 November. A shocked nation was paralysed by a series of simultaneous assaults in South Mumbai, traditional hub of the metropolis at a time when revellers were out on the streets and the common man was preparing to go to bed. Many realized that Mumbai had been struck only when they got up in the wee hours of 27 November to learn that schools and offices were closed for the day. These attacks in the heart of Mumbai in the proximity of the Gateway of India were seen by the nation as an assault on Indian sovereignty much in the same vein of the parliamentary strike in December 2001. The book covers the events that shook Mumbai and the nation for over 60 hours, the terror groups possibly involved, the diplomatic power play with the help of the world and the possible way ahead for the counter terror response at the national level.
