This book encourages the reader to make a quest for wisdom his or her highest priority. Using the biblical book of Proverbs as its inspiration, the author sheds light on what is the essential foundation of wisdom. The book also seeks to answer the question how to become wise and whether we become wiser when we get older and whether one can learn wisdom in a school. The reader learns about some key characteristics of a wise person. Several chapters look at various specific ways wisdom is becoming manifest in one's life, such as in the way we handle money, develop friendships and relate to one's spouse. The author points out that wisdom is more than speaking wise words or doing wise things, and that it is a way of life, in an intimate relationship with the Creator. This book encourages the reader to get wisdom and to grow in becoming a wiser person. Each chapter ends with discussion questions to make the content applicable to one's personal life or to be used in a group discussion.
Europe has changed, not only because of the refugee flows of 2015, but first and foremost because of a fundamental political change of climate. The hopes that many had associated with a united and free Europe have given way to fears and insecurity, which in many cases have opened the door to populism and nationalism right up into the heart of government. Instead of hope, pessimism prevails inmany cases today, and fear shapes the social climate. But Schirrmacher writes: "Hope is typical for Christians" and "Hope creates real future". These two examples show that the author's 66 theses have lost none of their relevance, and that it is perhaps even more important today that Christians reappraise the biblical-theological basis of their hope.It ismy hope that this book about hope will contribute to a better and biblically founded understanding of hope.Rev. Dr. Frank Hinkelmann, President of the European Evangelical Alliance
