These latest adventures of 'Raffles' and 'Bunny' are their most thrilling and exciting ones. The sentimental side of their story has never before been shown so dramatically and romantically, and the suggestion in this book of the final conclusion of their careers cannot but make these stories of the greatest interest to all readers.

The Woman And The Priest: Translated From The Italian By Mary G. Steegmann This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Tristan le Sauvage left the Purple Isle upon a knightly quest-to recover his sister from The Land of Seven Streams. Two months had passed since a great ship, with gleaming sails, had swooped like a falcon upon Purple Isle, and carried thence that white dove, Columbe the Fair. In the Land of Seven Streams, Tristan finds many other knightly services in the struggle between papacy and people, and again, between the broken ranks of the Christians and the Saracen hordes.

"Dr. Lavendar," said William King, "some time when Goliath is doing his 2.40 on a plank road, don't you want to pull him up at that house on the Perryville pike where the Grays used to live, and make a call? An old fellow called Roberts has taken it; he is a-" "Teach your grandmother," said Dr. Lavendar; "he is an Irvingite. He comes from Lower Ripple, down on the Ohio, and he has a daughter, Philippa."

It stood on the top of a high hill-bleak, solitary. In winter all the winds of heaven raved round it; in summer the happy sunshine rarely touched it. It was, indeed, hemmed in from brightness of any kind, by a dense row of cypresses that grew before the hall-door, and by a barren rock that rose perpendicularly at the back. On clear days one could get from this cold house a grand view of the valley below, nestling in its warmth, and from the road that ran under it people would sometimes look up and wonder at the curious colour of the Red House-such a dark red, sombre, like blood.

It belonged, the landlord told him, tothe man who, two nights before, had occupied the cot and who had died init. Everett was anxious to learn of what he had died. Apparentlysurprised at the question, the Portuguese shrugged his shoulders."Who knows?" he exclaimed. The next morning the English trader acrossthe street assured Everett there was no occasion for alarm. "He didn'tdie of any disease," he explained. "Somebody got at him from thebalcony, while he was in his cot, and knifed him."The English trader was a young man, a cockney, named Upsher. At home hehad been a steward on the Channel steamers. Everett made him his mostintimate friend. He had a black wife, who spent most of her day in afour-post bed, hung with lace curtains and blue ribbon, in which sheresembled a baby hippopotamus wallowing in a bank of white sand.At first the black woman was a shock to Everett, but after Upsherdismissed herRead More

A charming story of girl life. The plot is breezy and natural and holds the attention to the last page. The chief scenes belong to the early days of Virginia, just before the Revolution; and the plot runs on through the earlier years of the war. It is an entertaining narrative, in which the career of the heroine is portrayed from "household slavery" to the possession of a fortune and ease.

Messrs. Mitchell and Bent will shortly issue 'The Life of Madala Grey' by Anita Serle: a critical biography based largely on private correspondence and intimate personal knowledge. That was in The Times a fortnight ago. And now the reviews are beginning-The Cult of Madala Grey....The Problem of Madala Grey....The Secret of Madala Grey....I wish they wouldn't. Oh, I wish they wouldn't.No admirer of the late Madala Grey's arresting art can fail to be absorbed by these intimate and unexpected revelations....Delicately, unerringly, Miss Serle traces to its source the inspiration of that remarkable writer.... And-this will please Anita most of all-We ourselves have never joined in the chorus of praise that, a decade ago, greeted the appearance of 'Eden Walls' and its successors, and in our opinion Miss Serle, in her biographical enthusiasm, uses the word genius a little too often and too easily. Madala Grey has yet to be tried by that subtlest of literary critics, the Man with the Scythe. But whether or not we agree with Miss Serle's estimate of her heroine, there can be no two questions as to the literary value of the 'Life' itself. It definitely places Miss Serle among the Boswells, and as we close its fascinating pages we find ourselves wondering whether our grandchildren will remember Miss Serle as the biographer of Madala Grey, or Madala Grey as the subject matter merely, of a chronicle that has become a classic.
