Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, finding himself continually harrassed by his Aunt's incessant desire to see him suitably married, and to a woman of wealth and status, was determined to create a plan to keep her attention off Pemberley for as long as possible.

What better way than to be betrothed to someone?

Even if it was not true in the end, an engagement would suffice. He devises a plan to portray himself as already engaged, going so far as commissioning a portrait of a nameless young woman who he could use as his own fictional fiance.

But when his plans go awry, Mr. Darcy must find ways to seek the help of the very same young woman he had been pretending to be engaged to. It seemed that it was up to Miss Elizabeth Bennet now whether or not the proud gentleman would deserve her assistance.
