A Year in the Life of a Recovering Spendaholic

Bag om A Year in the Life of a Recovering Spendaholic

This is a book about personal change related to "spendaholic" behaviors. It is the recorded journey of the author's commitment to not purchase anything non-disposable for herself or her home for an entire year. The stimulus for this book was a trip to New Orleans soon after Hurricane Katrina. On that trip the author connected to her spendaholic behavior, and vowed to change it. Believing that personal change takes more time than thirty days or ninety days, the author made a commitment that lasted one full year to reinforce that change. The lessons in this short book include journal entries for my year of no personal spending and lessons I gained along the way. I hope you will smile some, shake your head some, and worry some if it strikes a little close to home, but most of all, I hope you will see that small attitude shifts and thoughtful intentionality can truly change behavior and even improve your life. There are many books on budgeting. This book is not about budgeting. There are many books on saving money. This book may help you save money, but saving money isn't the goal of this book. There are no coupon lessons in this book. You can find other books with tips on using coupons as a strategy to saving money. In this year's journey, I discovered my "whys" of spendaholism, which helped me make a lasting change to my behavior. It is my hope that by reading about my journey and insights, readers will be encouraged to discover their own "whys" for their own "isms" and begin their own journey to change. - Patti Fralix, author
