An Evolution of Warm Mix Additives in Bituminous Mix Design

An Evolution of Warm Mix Additives in Bituminous Mix Designaf Krunal Patel
Bag om An Evolution of Warm Mix Additives in Bituminous Mix Design

Hot mix Asphalt which incorporates the bituminous layer has been conventionally used in India for over 80% of road network. Certain limitations are viable to occur in the HMA technology, for which Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) is a suitable alternative. Material mixing and laying done at mixing temperature for asphalt pavement is relatively reduced by the Warm Mix Asphalt technology. Reduction in energy consumption, increased workability and reduced emissions are the advan tages of WMA. Furthermore, in extreme weather conditions and larger haul distances, easier compaction is provided. Present study investigates experimental analysis of warm mix chemical additives which are easily available. Additive VG10 has been used at varying mixing temperature 110, 120 and 130 to prepare warm mix, to derive optimum concentration for Dense Bituminous Macadam mix. Marshall Samples have been prepared with DBM according to the specifications by MORTH. Later, at optimum binder additive and optimum mixing temperature Marshall Properties were studied.
