The plant Hibiscus rosa sinensis Linn. Is a shrub and belongs to family "Malvaceace". It is commonly known as ' Jaswand' in India. It is also a houseplant and is traditionally known to possess various medicinal properties known to contain anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties. Considering its medicinal properties, it was selected for study. The plant Habiscus rosa sinensis Linn. Was subjected to aqueous, alcoholic extraction. The extractability of aqueous and alcoholic extract was worked out to be 20 and 40 %, respectively. Both the extracts were brown in colour and semisolid in consistency. The aqueous and alcoholic extracts were evaluated for the presence of active principles. Which revealed steroids, Alkaloids, Proteins, Reducing Sugars, Saponins, Tannins and Flavonoids. Both the extracts were screened for analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities. It was observed that both the extracts @ 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight showed significant analgesic activity in rats by tail immersion method in a dose-dependent manner and was effective at 1% level of significance.
