Bag om Bird in Me Flies
The Bird in Me Flies has won several awards in Sweden, including the August Prize, Sweden's most important literary award for Best Swedish Children's Book of the Year. The story is inspired by the early life of Swedish artist Berta Hansson (1910-1994), but at its core it is about a young girl's determination to defy the social conventions of her time and follow her dreams. The text for this novel in verse is not long and along with the stunning illustrations provides a rich reading experience - one that might especially appeal to less fluent readers. The book has had wide international success - it has been translated into Korean, Danish, Arabic, English (in the UK and North America), Belarusian, Croatian and Hindi.Sara Lundberg's blogpost on the creation of the book can be found at https://blog.picturebookmakers.com/post/182911913191/sara-lundberg.Curriculum connections include Language arts / novel study; History / women's history; Art / art history, drawing, painting, sculpting.
