When the notorious libertine Lord Lavigne enters her life, Matilda decides to steal a dress and begin life as adventuress rather than endure her mother's shabby respectability. She obtains employment at a notorious burlesque house - and changes her name to the more ethereal-sounding Céline. Though Céline discovers that her beloved Lord Lavigne already has a mistress, the beautiful Madeline, she learns she will stop at nothing to enjoy his lordship's affections.
