Cicero's Second Philippic (1883)

Cicero's Second Philippic is a political speech delivered by the famous Roman orator and statesman, Marcus Tullius Cicero, in 44 BC. The speech is addressed to the Roman Senate and denounces Mark Antony, a powerful general and politician who was vying for control of Rome after the assassination of Julius Caesar. Cicero accuses Antony of corruption, tyranny, and disrespect for the Senate and Roman traditions. He also defends his own actions in opposing Antony and urges the Senate to take action to prevent Antony from seizing power. The speech is considered a masterpiece of Roman oratory and a significant historical document of the turbulent political climate of the late Roman Republic.
