It's 1972, and Alexei Dimichenko is a young, ideological KGB officer with growing doubts about the system he serves. When on a routine surveillance operation in Moscow, he sees his lover meeting with an American spy, leaving Alexei with a dreadful choice to make. He chooses his country, betraying his lover, but this decision accidentally embroils Alexei in the ORCHESTRA plot, a secret bi-lateral plan between hard-liners in the Politburo and the White House who want to bring an end to détente.
As foreigners flood into Moscow for the Canada-Soviet hockey series, Alexei is unsure of who to trust as he embarks on a dangerous voyage of discovery about the system he has served and the people closest to him.
With the final match in the hockey series approaching, Alexei realises that he is the only person who can stop a new freeze in the Cold War.
This is a gritty tale of secrets and betrayal, both political and personal, with Alexei cast as a reluctant and unlikely hero.
