She eventually falls in love with a man named Francis Levison, who is known for his bad reputation.Lady Isabel's affair with Levison leads to her downfall, and she is eventually abandoned by him. She leaves her husband and children and takes on a new identity as a governess in a small village. There, she becomes close with a family and eventually reveals her true identity to them.As the story progresses, Lady Isabel's past catches up with her, and she is forced to confront the consequences of her actions.
