Este libro es el quinto volumen de la famosa serie Episodios Nacionales del escritor español Benito Pérez Galdós. El libro cuenta la historia de un cargamento de bienes del rey José Bonaparte que es enviado de Sevilla a Madrid en 1810. A través de esta historia, Pérez Galdós ofrece una crónica detallada de la época y de las luchas políticas y militares de la España napoleónica.
