Once an employee of Alfa Romeo, Enzo Ferrari left the company in 1939 determined to create a superior automobile. Ferrari's own company, Auto Avio Costruzioni, opened in Modena, Italy the same year. In 1947, he took the V12, now known as the 125 S, out for its first test drive. Since that time, Ferraris have received numerous accolades for design and performance as both race cars and luxury automobiles.
