Il tua l'homme dont sa femme était amoureuse, puis il se suicida. Jeanne fut laissée seule, sans mari ni amoureux, et sa beauté se fanait.La nouvelle explore les thèmes de la passion amoureuse, de la trahison et de la destinée tragique.
