Bag om Mademoiselle Fifi
Mademoiselle Fifi is a collection of short stories written by Henri Rene Guy De Maupassant. The book is set in France during the Franco-Prussian War and explores themes of war, love, and class struggles. The titular story, Mademoiselle Fifi, tells the story of a group of Prussian officers who occupy a French chateau and demand that the women of the household entertain them. The story takes a dark turn when one of the officers, a man known as Mademoiselle Fifi, becomes obsessed with a French prostitute and the situation escalates into violence. Other stories in the collection include Boule de Suif, which tells the story of a group of travelers who are forced to rely on a prostitute for their survival, and The Necklace, which explores the consequences of greed and social climbing. De Maupassant's writing is known for its realism and psychological insight, and this book is considered a classic of French literature. The girls did not understand his witticisms, and their intelligence did not seem to be awakened until he sputtered obscene words, rough expressions, crippled by his accent. Then all in a chorus began to laugh as if they were demented, falling on the laps of their neighbors, repeating the words which the Baron disfigured purposely in order to make them say filthy things. They vomited at will plenty of them, intoxicated after drinking from the first bottles of wine; and relapsing into their real selves, opening the gates to their habits, they kissed mustaches on their right and those on their left, pinched arms, uttered furious screams, drank out of all the glasses, sang French couplets and bits of German songs they had learned in their daily intercourse with the enemy. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
