Seit geraumer Zeit wird gerade Dienstleistungsunternehmen unterstellt, dass es einen engen Zusammenhang zwischen der Zufriedenheit der Mitarbeiter einerseits und der Zufriedenheit der Kunden andererseits gibt. Die entsprechenden theoretischen Überlegungen sind auch durchaus plausibel und haben während der letzten Jahre bei Dienstleistern der unterschiedlichsten Branchen dazu geführt, dass nach der Kundenzufriedenheit auch und gerade der Mitarbeiterzufriedenheit deutlich größere Bedeutung beigemessen wird als in der Vergangenheit. Eines der jüngsten Beispiele hierfür ist der Bankensektor, der in seinem Bemühen um die Wiedergewinnung des Vertrauens der Kunden auch der Mitarbeiterzufriedenheit - als einem Faktor der Kundenorientierung - mehr Beachtung schenkt. Umso erstaunlicher ist es, dass bis dato vergleichsweise wenige Studien existieren, die empirisch überprüfen, ob und wie stark denn tatsächlich die Zusammenhänge zwischen Mitarbeiterzufriedenheit und Kundenzufriedenheit sind. Dessen ungeachtet hat der Autor nicht nur ein Konzept entwickelt, dass für die Messung des Zusammenhangs geeignet ist, sondern konnte dieses dank der Bereitschaft von zwei Unternehmen aus dem Fitnesssektor auch einsetzen - und zumindest für diese Unternehmen in dieser Branche die unterstellten Zusammenhänge zwischen Mitarbeiter- und Kundenzufriedenheit belegen.
