A 30 Day Christ-Centered Journey Through ScriptureMost of us understand the basic story of the Bible, but few of us recognize that all of Scripture (both Old and New Testaments) are pointing us toward Christ. In this thirty day devotional, you will journey through all of Scripture to discover how it all points to Jesus Christ. As Charles Spurgeon once wrote: "You all know the old, old story. The world was lost; God must punish sin; He sent His son to take our sin upon Him that He might honor the law of God, and establish God's government by being obedient to the law, and yielding Himself up to the death-penalty. He whom Jehovah loves beyond all else came to earth, became a man, and, as a man, was obedient unto death of the cross....He yielded up His life, "the Just for the unjust," the Sinless for the sinful, "that He might bring us to God," and reconcile us to the great Father. That is the story, and whosoever believeth in Him shall live....I want to entreat men, who have looked elsewhere, now to turn their eyes away from the fruitless search after peace and life, and to come and "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." May the Spirit of God open their eyes, and incline their hearts, that tonight, even tonight, they may look unto Him and live!...Behold and wonder, never leave off wondering; tell it as a wonder, think of it as a wonder, [preach] of it as a wonder, sing of it as a wonder...Take your eyes off everything else, and behold the Lamb of God!"This book uses the King James Version of the Bible.
What does Eric Ludy have to say about relationships that he hasn't already shared? After twenty years of traveling the globe speaking on the topic of relationships, and after a dozen books penned to address this particular theme, Eric told Leslie several years ago that he was done writing on the topic. And yet, after being approached by a movie producer in early 2012 with heartfelt pleas to come out of "romance writing retirement" for one last hurrah, Eric for some reason agreed. In a seven-day stretch in the late months of that spring, this book was written. Though penned in a single week, the message within this book was forged over two decades and was born in the fires of prayerful application. Each of these forty chapters is likely the equivalent of a hundred conversations with wrestling souls and a hundred hours of meditating upon the truth of the Scriptures. According to Eric, this is the book that blows all his other relationship books out of the water (though they are all good and you are encouraged to read them). He also states that if he could pick one of his books on relationships to give to his own kids, this would be the one. This book is suitable for any age.
If it is true that we are the Body of Christ, then our hands should be doing what His would do if He were on earth. Our feet should be walking into the places His would have taken Him if He were still walking this globe. Our eyes should be seeing what His would be seeing, our ears hearing the same Spirit He heeded, and our hearts beating with the same anguish that burdened His Almighty heart. As the Body of Christ, we are to behave on this earth as He did when He strode upon it. We should gravitate towards the weak ones just as He was magnetically inclined towards their needs. Just as He lived as a Savior, a Rescuer, and a Deliverer, so we live as little christs-little saviors, little rescuers, and little deliverers. We are not God, but we are enabled by the grace of God to live just as He did. And He was a hero. All God's giants have been weak men, who did great things for God because they believed that God would be with them. - Hudson Taylor
It's high time for the dunces, doofs, dodos, dumbbells, dumdums, and dolts for Jesus Christ to return to the stage of time. Christianity comes in two distinct packages. There is the sort of Christian who fits in with society, never offends anyone, and remains quiet in those moments when speaking up would be tantamount to reputational suicide. Then there is the other sort-the dunce-ish, doofish, dodo- ish, dumbellish, dum-dumish, doltish sort of Christian, who, even if they tried, can't seem to ever fit in. This second kind of Christian exudes the fragrance of heaven and offends people who prefer the aroma of worldly things. They just can't remain silent, even though being "fools for Christ" may cost them their very lives. The first sort of Christian is common in this earth. The second is quite rare. The first is powerless to change the world for Christ. The second is the chosen tool of Jesus Christ to alter the course of history. At Ellerslie, it is our goal to train the second sort of Christian-men and women fearless to stand upon the timeless Word of God and lovingly and courageously live it out in their lives. It is our great passion to equip our students to be bold confessors, willing to joyfully bear the stigma of Christ, be deemed the fool, and share in the fellowship of His sufferings, in order that the Lamb that was slain may, in fact, receive the reward of His sufferings. Christian, there is a dunce cap with your name on it. Would you be so kind as to be a true Christian and boldly stick it on your head?
I mean really?Who picks up a book with a big pair of pants on the front of it and seriously considers reading it? Hmmm. Was it the title that intrigued you? (If so, why would a title about "pants" intrigue you?) Was it the word "cult leader" that drew you in? (If so, I'm not exactly sure that you are proving the healthiest person. Is it sheer fascination that is drawing you in?) Fascination is not always the best reason to spend an hour reading a book, because fascination itself is not always a good thing (just think toddler and light socket). But I must admit, you are holding a really good book in your hand right now. That said, I'm still not sure your motives for reading it are all that sound. Personally, I think you need a better reason than big pants, the term "cult leader," and sheer fascination in order to read this book. So, how about I go around the Ellerslie office and have a few people comment on why you should read this book. That way, you can read it in good conscience, knowing that a lot of really trustworthy people consider it a valuable use of your time. Sound fair?WHY YOU SHOULD READ ITIf you like the "Eric Ludy" brand of humor (which, I personally do), then you will spend an hour laughing out loud while reading this short book. Remember, according to Proverbs 17:22, "a joyful heart is good medicine." This book will certainly be good medicine for those that read it.Sandi McConnaughey, Dean of Women, Ellerslie Discipleship Training Could I get a pair of pants like that? Hey Pharisees! Don't forget Nathan Johnson next time you ship out some denim!Nathan Johnson, Pastor of Discipleship, Ellerslie Discipleship Training Any book that can make huge pants somehow seem like a treasure deserves an hour of your time. So, go for it. Read it!Dan McConnaughey, Pastor of Biblical Studies, Ellerslie Discipleship Training The fact that I could read this book and actually enjoy it shows me that this is a pretty special book. I've hated these pants for far too long. I've decided to join with Eric and start celebrating all this unwarranted denim!Leslie Ludy, Wife of the author
