The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a novel written by Spanish author Vicente Blasco Ib����������ez. Originally published in 1916, the book tells the story of a wealthy Argentine family living in France before and during World War I. The patriarch of the family, Julio Madariaga, is a proud and stubborn man who is determined to maintain his family's wealth and status. His four grandchildren, Julio Desnoyers, Chichi, Marcelo, and Marguerite, each represent one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse: War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death. As the war rages on, the family members are forced to confront their own mortality and the devastating effects of the conflict. The novel explores themes of love, loyalty, and the destructive power of war. It has been adapted into several films, including a 1921 silent film starring Rudolph Valentino.1918. This novel presents a new view point from which to see and feel World War I. These characters have seen the war through the eyes of their own country.
