Bag om Herland

Herland is a utopian novel written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, first published in 1915. The story is set in an isolated society composed entirely of women, who reproduce via parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction). The women are highly intelligent and skilled, living in a society free of war, conflict, and poverty. The main characters, three male explorers, discover this society and are initially skeptical of its existence. However, they soon come to appreciate the peaceful and harmonious way of life in Herland, and begin to question their own patriarchal society. The novel explores themes of gender roles, feminism, and the possibility of a utopian society. Gilman's work has been praised for its progressive and feminist ideas, and it remains a classic of feminist literature. What I'm trying to show here is that with these women the whole relationship of life counted in a glad, eager growing-up to join the ranks of workers in the line best loved; a deep, tender reverence for one's own mother--too deep for them to speak of freely--and beyond that, the whole, free, wide range of sisterhood, the splendid service of the country, and friendships. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
