In the late Middle Ages, a trans-Mediterranean network of holy sites developed, linked to one another by sea routes. In this book, the essays describe the specific sacred geography of the sanctuaries situated along medieval sea routes and examine their characteristics from the perspectives of history, religion, and art history.
