"This is an idea book for teachers of secondary level English. Students learn a great deal if they do projects at home so two-thirds of this book explores ways to use movies (feature and documentary), magazine articles, modern songs, musicals, and Norman Rockwell's paintings as home-based projects. In order to help students give direction to their research the author has included instructions on how to teach three kinds of reports (movies, books and songs). There are also instructions on how to analyze paintings and photographs. The final one-third of the book contains teaching ideas that will enliven the classroom: work with cloze outlines of songs, a discussion of magazine articles, etc. The author's focus throughout is on teaching materials that will help students to gain insight into their own lives and prepare themselves for the big decisions (e.g., jobs, choice of a mate) that lie just around the corner."--
