Introduction to Chemistry

Chemistry is a discipline of science that deals with the elements and compounds made up of atoms, molecules and ions. It is also concerned with their composition, structure, behavior and properties, as well as the changes they undergo during a reaction with other substances. There are three major branches of chemistry, namely, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry. Inorganic chemistry studies the properties and reactions of inorganic compounds. Organic chemistry focuses on the structure, properties and mechanisms of compounds which have a carbon-hydrogen bond. Physical chemistry deals with the study of the fundamental and physical basis of chemical systems and processes.
