Jazz Lines

- Melodic Studies on Standard Progressions

Bag om Jazz Lines

20 original melodic studies for all instruments based on great jazz standards such as Night and Day, Body and Soul, I Can't Get Started, Autumn in New York, Someone to Watch Over Me, etc.. Parts in G and F clef, Bb, Eb, and a piano comp with walking bass line. Also included is a structural analysis of each piece, and a Phrase Bank with 80 selected phrases. Each phrase is completely analyzed - detailing chord scales, modal techniques, superimposed triads and seventh chords, chromatic approach tones, and passing tones, and techniques for motivic development, forming a complete course on improvisation in the jazz idiom. "Jeff Gardner has outdone himself again! Besides being one of the great pianists of our time, a brilliant composer, Jeff has released a series of books over the years that are important to the development of every pianist, non-pianist, and educator. His latest book, Jazz Lines, breaks down how to apply licks to address different harmonic progressions, and help the beginning or advanced improviser retain and expand their ideas. I highly recommend this book for all serious students and educators!" - Donald Brown "The engaging etudes in Jeff Gardner's new book, Jazz Lines, feature tasteful excursions through a select group of jazz standards that highlight advanced harmonic thinking in highly refined melodic lines. Players of all levels will find a treasure trove of sophisticated vocabulary that is both accessible and cutting edge" - Tony Dagradi (professor at Loyola University New Orleans, sax with Astral Project). "The etudes in Jazz Lines explore the most common progressions with melodic and harmonic content that can expand your vocabulary beyond the typical patterns, phrases, and voicings" - Michael Pellera (Director of Jazz Studies - NOCCA - New Orleans Center for Creative Arts)."A welcome addition for all who are interested in studying jazz performance and composition The examples are useful and most enjoyable to play. I fully anticipate adding Jazz Lines to material I use with all my students." Michael A. Tracy - Director, Jamey Aebersold Jazz Studies Program - University of Louisville, "Recomendo a todos os estudantes de MUSICA, que abram a janela para esse trabalho maravilhoso do grande músico Jeff Gardner" - Gilson Peranzzetta
