Mama and Papa bird teach Baby bird in this colorful animation about life in the traditional family nest.Mom's Choice and Benjamin Franklin award winner. Destined to become a classic - Midwest Book Review.Mama Bird Papa Bird is the first book in a series that teach children about life, family and growing up in a family. This book sets up a series of books to follow with titles such as: Mama Bird Papa Bird Obey Right Away and Mama Bird Papa Bird Tell the Truth (Spring 2023). The Spanish/English version was created specifically for those who are learning or beginning Spanish, and for those who do not speak English, so that youngsters and their parents and grandparents can read together. Mama Bird Papa Bird books do not identify gender, so that male or female can identify with Baby Bird. This was written intentionally gender free to reach all children, regardless of gender, and focus on the actions of Bay Bird. Actions such as: learning how to fly, learning how to sing, learning how to obey, and learning the importance of telling the truth. Mama Bird Papa Bird books end with a question: "If you were a baby bird, what would you do?" Again, intentionally designed to ask the question what would you do, versus who are you? Mama Bird Papa Bird was also designed to help parents announce the potential birth/addition to their family in a non explicit way for children. Overall, Mama Bird Papa Bird is ideal for first time mothers, grandmothers and families who want to explain about life in its beginning. Mama Bird Papa Bird is colorfully illustrated by Faith Thomas, in soft watercolors that depict a family of Robins. The author, Wanda Obermeier was born in Wisconsin, where Robins are the state bird. She spent many hours as a child observing them and being awakened each morning by their lovely song that is so very distinguished from all the others birds. Mama Bird Papa Bird has been criticized for being about a traditional family, however, since most birds mate for life, it seemed proper to identify them as a family.
