Author: This is the BEST math short story collection for kids!
Skeptical Middle School Reader: It's the only one. So, you could also say it's also the WORST.
Author (sighs, looking at toes): True... but I'm trying to get you to read it. That won't help.
Reader: I'm not convinced. It says "Math" right in the title and the cover is boring.
Author: How can I get you to try it? I won't make you finish.
Reader: Maybe if it was funny...
Author: Oh, it's funny all right!

Author: It's not all about math. It's about programming computers, and fairies, ...

Author (blushes): There's a tiny section where fairies reduce fractions but you won't have to do any work, I promise. Math just helps tell the stories. You can forget it as soon as you're done reading it. There won't be a quiz.
