Bag om My Book of Bible Stories (Christ Edition) Volume 2
Here again is our addition, or should I say, intervention in helping many to interpret scriptures properly, precisely across all ages, cadres and status in society. As we have done in Volume 1, we have put together this material to answer questions on the minds of many on things they learnt, even from childhood about the scriptures, God and what he had done before, and what he might still be doing today. As we often say, where a scripture is misinterpreted, oftentimes a major truth is lost. Interpretation of scriptures is not something that should be taken at face value.
Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. The above text highlights how Jesus was very thorough in how he went through the scriptures, and opened the minds of his hearers. We trust that this book will do the same to all who read it. In looking at certain things within the scriptures, we have taken an advancement from the first volume to look at the cultural context and the language context of scriptures, such that we are not so far ahead in seeing the true nature of words used in the scriptures, the events that happened therein, and subsequently, God's actions within the body of scriptures. Very precisely is the fact that we have taken on the challenge on how the scriptures project the woman (women) in its world and in today's world. History and cultures the world over are replete with imageries, socially accepted norms and practices that reinforce a thinking that women and girls are to be seen, and not heard. In our world today, it has influenced the pursuit of careers or lack thereof and hugely limited the fullest expression of the potential of the girl child. She is sometimes told what she can/ cannot do because of her gender. It sometimes borders on being outrightly disrespectful and demeaning to box the woman/ girl child into a corner. Sometimes by looking around, lessons lying all around you seem to tell a different story. Girls have often bested boys in academic endeavours and in many other walks of life. Many of humanity's greatest feats have been championed by women. For equal measure, a woman's programming genius helped to put a man on the moon! Why then does the Bible have various accounts that seemingly reinforce the subjugation of women? This study answers these burning and valid questions and presents God's thoughts about humanity.
We expect young and old not just to enjoy how this is put together, but also to get into the rigorous study of scriptures to come to the point of knowing God in true worship. Now, we believe that books should be written at this time to re-emphasise the truths of scriptures, but most importantly, to re-mentor, re-educate the young and the old, and particularly the old as well who have come up with certain beliefs that are myths, and not found within scriptures, and of course, the young who might have had those things passed across to them, and therefore have a total misconception of who God is, what he said, and what he might be saying today. We trust that this book will, as much as possible, take away such misconceptions as we have put this together in the most readable language possible, definitely having a scholastic touch because it will require that the reader takes it beyond a face value reading of scriptures, but goes through the texts appropriately to come to the truth of God's word in its wholesomeness.
We trust that this will open the minds of many and open the vistas of the true worship of God in the hearts of many in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. So, get ready and have a great time, in your study and worship of God as you read "My Book of Bible Stories (Volume 2)" I remain Multidimensionally Yours,
Chris 'Segun Onayinka.
