Bag om Neue Entwicklungslinien in Der Starkstromtechnik

In heavy-current engineering as well, the transltlon from rotation to translatory motion is probable in some sectors-e. g. the MHD-generator. The transition to no-motion electronics is inexorable. New thinking about design and production techniques will be required in this microcosmic, miniaturized technique. The shift away from the empirical to the predictable for almost all products and processes requires radical thought, so that the at present still rather confusing multitude of possibilities offered by electronic-magnetic computing can be taken full advantage of, step by step, including their application for industrial and commercial automation. During the general process in which technology is employing a more and more scientific basis, we shall have to prepare for the foIlowing facts and possibilities in our research and development, in manufacture, planning and selling: An increasing proportion of using nuclear fuels as world production of power continues to grow. In the extreme, long-term view, nuclear fusion is indicated in the stabilized, hyper-temperature electric arc. The complementary employment of direct, i. e. non-rotational, genera tors of power for improving the efficiency of power stations and for use in the propulsion and electrical systems of land, water and space vehicles. The complete or partial automation of power stations, smelting plants, rolling mills, mining installations, large-scale chemical plants and materials handling installations of aIl types, as weIl as of manufacturing processes as such by means of process guidance systems - in the forefront the new pro cess computers.
