Literature refers to a body of written works. It can be in the form of poetry, novels, and short stories. British literature refers to any work of literature written by British authors living in the United Kingdom which encompasses Wales, the Isle of Man, England, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and Scotland. This body of literature comprises works written in modern, old and Middle English, where each of the work is related to a distinct period.
