Bag om Roughing It
Roughing It is a semi-autobiographical travelogue written by Mark Twain. It chronicles his adventures and misadventures as a young man traveling through the American West and Hawaii in the mid-1800s. The book is divided into several chapters, each detailing a different leg of Twain's journey. He starts out in Missouri, where he works as a newspaper reporter before setting out on a stagecoach to Nevada. Along the way, he encounters a variety of colorful characters, including miners, cowboys, and Mormons. Twain's descriptions of the landscape and people he encounters are vivid and humorous, and he paints a picture of a wild and untamed frontier that is both exhilarating and dangerous. He also provides insight into the social and political climate of the time, including the tensions between the Mormons and the non-Mormon settlers. In addition to his travels through the West, Twain also describes his time in Hawaii, where he worked as a journalist and witnessed the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy. Throughout the book, Twain's wit and humor are on full display, making Roughing It a delightful and entertaining read. The next morning, bright and early, we took a hasty breakfast, and hurried to the starting-place. Then an inconvenience presented itself which we had not properly appreciated before, namely, that one cannot make a heavy traveling trunk stand for twenty-five pounds of baggage-- because it weighs a good deal more. But that was all we could take-- twenty-five pounds each. So we had to snatch our trunks open, and make a selection in a good deal of a hurry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
