Safe Piloting and Double Yellow Lines

Bag om Safe Piloting and Double Yellow Lines

What really happened to Kennedy? How was the CIA and the "Evil Empire" involved in shooting down a 747 airliner? Did the Challenger Shuttle actually blow up? What are Double Yellow Lines? What is CARE? What did Kettering have to do with Instrument flying? Mr. Harrington owned American Flyers with a dozen locations across the United States. He visited each of them regularly accumulating thousands of hours in his personal Cessna 182, 310R, two 340's and Citation Jet - he even enjoyed flying the Good Year Blimp. Working for American Flyers he met and befriended hundreds of students, fellow pilots, instructors, mechanics and FAA personnel. There was seldom a moment in those fifty years when flying wasn't the subject. He was intimately involved in writing all of its instructional manuals, newsletters and net site, including its Flight Instructor Renewal Course (FIRC, ) the most attended in the world. His also taught weather and piloting courses at the University level. Its safe to say, "He's been there, done that" and his goal in this book is not an "ego trip" but rather to share his experiences and the lessons he learned "outside the classroom" and only that which can be learned from experience. In addition to wanting you to be a safer pilot he desires to increase your appreciation of aviation by sharing a lot of unknown history with the reader, for instance, personal contact with men like Hoover, Frasca, Robertson and Jeppeson. Along with a lot of these unknown historical facts this book reads like a novel, includes plenty of humor and is full of well intentioned, good advice (and Double Yellow Lines). And for those who learned to land an aircraft by "rote" with dozens and dozens of "touch and goes" until you finally "got it," he offers a completely new technique called "Care to Land" which is an acronym for Coordinated Aileron, Rudder and Elevator, the key word being "coordinated". This innovative new system doesn't require an instructor to learn and can be practiced on your next cross country even without deviating from your course. He refers to it as a "cognitive" skill that unlike the ones learned from repetition, stay in-bedded in your memory for a lifetime and most important, create much safer landings.
