Sand-Buried Ruins of Khotan

Between 1900 and 1901, the Hungarian-born archaeologist Aurel Stein (1862-1943) made the first of several significant trips through Central Asia. Illustrated with numerous photographs, this 1903 publication contains a detailed report of his journey, covering important archaeological excavations and discoveries, notably Sanskrit texts of Buddhist scriptures.
