Kol has been chasing purpose his entire life. Rejected by his family's unique magic, Kol cannot follow in the footsteps of his father, the king. Kol's pursuit of meaning halts abruptly when three assassins barge into his home and curse his father into an enchanted sleep, leaving the king vulnerable to the whims of an unforeseen adversary. Worse still, fear is spreading among the citizens that the attack came from a neighboring tribe of frigid monsters, a rumor that only Kol seems to know is completely false. Kol must venture far from myth to save his home, following the trail left by the assassins into the modern world. With his magic refusing him at every step, Kol must enlist the aid of other highly capable strangers. Together, they must stop the king's enemy before the threat of war destroys Kol's home. Can this motley crew be trusted? Can Kol trust himself-even when the magic he should be able to wield denies him at every turn? Time is running out for the unlikely comrades. Will they make it back in time?
