""Smoke"" is a novel by Ivan Turgenev, first published in 1867. The story revolves around a group of Russian aristocrats who gather at a country estate to escape the pressures of city life. The protagonist, Grigory Mikhailovich Litvinov, is a young man who has returned to Russia after studying in Germany. He is in love with a woman named Tatyana, but she is engaged to a wealthy, older man named Potugin. Litvinov is also reunited with his former love, Irina, who is now married to a wealthy landowner. The novel explores themes of love, social class, and the conflict between traditional Russian values and Western influences. It is considered one of Turgenev's most significant works and a classic of Russian literature.1919.
