The Bald Eagle of the Far East

The Bald Eagle of the Far East tells the story of Herb Goodman, an intelligent, ambitious young man who pushed beyond the narrow confines of his early childhood to become a citizen of the world, first as a soldier during World War II, then as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer at the onset of the Cold War, and ultimately as an international oilman working for Gulf Oil. His success was equal parts luck and drive. He often benefited from being at the right place at the right time-but he also had an uncanny knack for turning that luck into opportunity and achievement.
It is also a story of leadership and perseverance against great odds-of forging one's destiny in the crucible of pervasive antisemitism, the Great Depression, a world war, and a constant, ever-growing need for oil to fuel the growth of societies around the globe. It weaves together the major world events happening as Herb pursued his dreams and describes the history of the oil industry from the unique perspective of one man's life.
Finally, it is the story of a daughter's love, and of her quest to better understand her father by sharing his stories from his time spent traveling the globe and shaping-and being shaped by-the world around him.
